Arkansas is much improved on and great on beam and floor, I just don't think their vault and bars are strong enough to push them over the top unless other teams start making mistakes. Disagree with Alabama as well, though they are solid if they hit. I enjoy watching Luisa Blanco and Shania Adams.

I think we all knew coming into this season that Florida was the most talented team in the country and were likely the team to beat, especially if they hit. While I believe they are the best team, hitting when it counts is ultimately what matters and I feel they have not done that over the years. I considered them a lock in 2019 to be in the finals but they didn't get out of their own regionals.

LSU, overall being healthier and deeper make them better than last year. Now, if LSU wants to be competitive with Florida we got to get ourselves to the high 197's.

I feel great about our vault situation to be as good as anyone in the country. If Alyona and Ryan continue to progress to add on to what we have with the back part of the lineup. Its definitely championship caliber routines. We will have at least five 10.0 vaults by SEC's.

For bars, I think the body of the routines are great. We clearly did a lot of work this offseason on body positions and hitting handstands. Dismounts remain the biggest. concern overall. Alyona and Dunne are getting hit for form on their dismounts before they even land it.. Both are beautiful bar workers but those 9.9's turn into 9.8's because of the DLO's. Bryant is a superb bar worker, but again, her dismount is taking her down a bit. I really hope she ends up putting in the double front half. I think the 2nd spot in the lineup is a major hole right now. I don't think Brock is competitive enough and Dean is serviceable but not ideal. I think its clear Arenas is our best bet to put our best foot forward in that spot. Pointed toes, hits her handstands. Look at 101 and you can see the polish compared to Brock and Dean. Hopefully she gets in sooner than later.

Beam, I think LSU is very strong here and the seniors excel on this event. I think LSU still has some 'issues' related to routine construction that hurt us at times. I don't get our obsession with the rotating leaps. Bryant is coming along nicely and I think Dunne getting into the lineup sooner than later will help us more.

Floor, with Haleigh and Kiya ending that rotation, we are set up for very big floor scores. I. still think there are some routines that still need a bit of work and there is room to upgrade down the road.

So after watching last night, I wonder if fla wins the title this year, and with that huge class coming in, if any of their other athletes will transfer out. Namely Peyton, Ellie Lazzari, Megan Skaggs, Gabrielle gallentiene. I mean these girls are in the lineups this year and next year it looks to get pretty crowded.

Also the I think Arkansas looks great and those judges really tried to give the meet to ga, especially the 1st 2 rotations.

Any progress with Rau’s 1.5 on vault? I felt she was rushed into the lineup last year, but with more time with Bob, I felt she’d get better. Surprised she isn’t mentioned at all this year.

I think she did her job last year and that is probably the last we will see of her in lineups but I could be mistaken.

Doubt it, those kids know good and well how stacked it is and know they are likely restricted with opportunities competing. Could be wrong.

Biggest difference IMO is floor improvement. They put a big emphasis on conditioning and tumbling technique. As for their construction, less is more and it reflects in the scores and performances. A clean hit routine is better than a messy. routine with big difficulty, deductions are deductions.

Wow. Some of Cal’s gymnasts are vaulting with their masks on. Impressive

I don’t know if impressive is the word I would use so much as scary! What happens if that thing slips over their eyes?!

I would not use that word at all, I would use foolish or dangerous... The mask and slip cover your eyes or you could even just lose peripheral vision that could end up in disaster.

I think it's very foolish

A friend of mine has a daughter trains at WOGA, her teammate ended up with a major concussion after doing training with a mask on the beam. The mask slipped in a middle of a skill and she lost complete sight of the beam and busted her head. It could have been way worse from how it was described.

Its their choice to do it I guess but in a sport like this where you are flipping, twisting and throwing your body in the air all over, I wouldn't want to ever do that.

It seems completely unnecessary as well, you are not interacting with the other team like basketball/football and everyone else on the sideline is distanced wearing a mask as well. Seems almost like a publicity stunt at this point. I understand being careful but it seems a bit over the top.

I could only imagine the disaster that could happen if a mask slips while someone is in the middle of their roundoff on vault. The sport is already dangerous enough as it is.

Skaggs is a senior so not worried about her transferring out next year. I’m more worried about who’s coming in to replace her that’s even stronger than her

Just these nobodies called Morgan Hurd and Riley McCusker...

But it's notable that even for Florida, a lot of contributions have been made by some of their stellar L10s. Schoenherr is wonderful, Richards had a great season last year, Reed has been a strong competitor, and Lazarri and Gallantine have a lot of promise.

LSU's senior class has done some good things. Its clear though their injuries definitely impacted their development and potential before and at LSU. Campbell and Dean were out for multiple years prior to LSU with nagging injuries. Desiderio had been out since the olympic trials for chronic ankle problems from her elite days. Gracen had to medically retire due to injury. Durante was limited to only bars coming to LSU at first due to the ACL injury.

Level 10 kids can be great. We have had many of them. The problem has been stability and health, not talent. Which IMO has contributed to the up and downs over the recent years. Some of these kids bodies are barely hanging on. This is why the new recruiting rules will work out best for all teams and athletes in the long run. We have had too many recruits in recent years who come into LSU all banged up and it has taken about 2-3 years before we can go anywhere with them. Its not the athletes fault but that was a pretty big issue.

When you are out multiple years not even competing or training, it really makes a significant impact on the athletes foundation, form and progression. Some of these kids could have been so much more if it weren't for their injuries. . It sucks but I know its part of this sport unfortunately

If any of y'all go back to some of these kids gymnastic routines from prior to college (before their injuries), you can see how much those injuries set them back in places.

Yea but I was just meaning I can’t imagine trinity doing aa, Wong coming in and doing at least 3 events, Riley doing at least 2 (she is the one I would have pegged for injuries), and so on, and then someone like Peyton, whose been an aa for 2 years willing to take a back seat and only do 1-2 events maybe. Just saying I wonder if some of these girls don’t transfer to smaller schools or different conferences. What exactly did Jenny promise to Hurd, Riley, leann and the like as far as usage? Is that a thing in gym recruiting like say fb. In fb they make promises to play you from the get go if you are a 5 star. Wonder if it’s the same in these situations?

Yes, totally agree about health. It's unfortunate that we've had a couple of rough years with health pre-during LSU days affecting the performance of some athletes, whether L10 or elite. It's been a nice change having a healthy class of multiple-event contributors this year as freshmen. I think they've been the healthiest since Ruby and Kennedi's year and it shows in how much they can contribute.

I’m really enjoying watching Utah this year. I think they do a really nice job pacing their athletes and Training at high altitude everyday is no joke. It’s been nice to see them take back the top spot in the pac12 post Skinner, who I did not particularly enjoy watching.

OU so far this season has been incredibly underwhelming in my opinion. Yes Olivia Trautman didn’t compete much last season due to injury but they’ve proved so far that all of their team high scores and success were solely due to Maggie Nichols being part of the squad. Losing Jade Degouveia on vault and floor didn’t help much either. They’ve got a LOOOOOOONG way to go if they want to challenge Florida (with how they’ve looked so far and how they’ll continue to look if they can manage to stay healthy), UCLA, Utah, and us all in the post season for a championship.

I might replace UCLA with Michigan or Arkansas depending. I haven't been that impressed with UCLA either. I think they are missing something, cause this is the 1st year I have not enjoyed 1 of their floor routines.

That OU-West Virginia was weird to me. Even before the first vault it felt something was missing. Like something was off. And I was watching on tv...not sure how the fans felt in the stands. Then when Webb had the mishap on her bars dismount...I didn’t know what to think. Then the beam debacle. I know they lost a lot from last year, but geesh. I expect OU to find their footing because they have more meets scheduled than any other team. So they have time. They’ll get back Trautman and Woodard. Just think the freshmen are getting some much needed experience, which will benefit OU in the long run.

Did anyone see the vault UCLA went 9.9 on with the full w/ a big bounce?

LINK

IMO OU isn't as talented as recent years but they depend on a lot of freshmen and new faces. If they settle down on beam they will be fine in the grand scheme of things down the road.
