Thank you for the update. From following Emma on social media I worried that gymnastics hasn’t been as much of a priority since the summer and I’m guessing she’s dropped the idea of going elite?. Is there a certain level of gymnastics those who verbal to LSU must maintain or is their potential and past skill level enough to keep a scholarship offer (assuming the gymnast is healthy...Caitlin seems to have been able to sign based on her past but not recent status)

Anyone know what the lineups will look like against Alabama?

Maybe I am being a bit harsh but let's be honest, we took Emma because we wanted her sister and her mom can make lots and lots of contributions to the gymnastics program for many years to come. I hope she gets herself together but she isn't anywhere near the best recruit we have coming up.
Apparently Maggie Nichols will not compete again this weekend. They said she had a bruised heel and they were just being careful but two weeks in a row makes me wonder if it is a little more than they thought? At the same time, they don't need her to win and may just want to take one extra week off and give more girls a chance to get in the lineups.

The OP is a year old. Is it time to start a new thread?

Glad you’re here, it’s about time to clean this place up with NSD looming

Any word on recruitment? Any official visits happen during the season? Just curious.

Any word on Sami Durante? Did she get hurt during warm ups? Do we know if she will be competing in Kentucky tomorrow?

I think she has a concussion. Don’t know about tomorrow but hope she can be in there!

There is an article on LSUSports.net on the gymnastics page that says Ferrer will be in the bars lineup for Sami. Campbell will compete in the third spot in the floor lineup and McKenna will be third up on beam. That's the plan for now.

I don't understand why Reagan wasn't in the floor lineup last week! She looks to be a big asset on floor.
Sorry to hear that Sami is still out. I sure hope they're just being extra careful with her.

I’ve always been an LSU fan. But is it safe to say that maybe this year’s team is not that good!?!? The only consistent gymnast is Finnegan (and Campbell possibly). This showing at Kentucky was not good. I understand the vaults were underscored, but every other score was pretty reasonable.

I was wondering the same thing about Reagan. I watched "Inside LSU Gymnastics" for that week and DD said that Reagan tweaked her ankle in the warm up, so they kept her out as a precaution. I just love her! Such pretty gymnastics and seems mentally tough as well which is what they need.
This team has had such bad luck with injuries and now it seems like they have been battling with illnesses these past few weeks as well. I have to say I was totally shocked when Lexie missed the lower bar last night. I don't think I've ever seen her do that! So weird. Maybe she's still not back to 100 percent feeling well.
Hope they can pull it all together in the next few weeks. The talent is there and it seems as though their heart is in it. I just love this group of seniors and hoping they can finish the season off on the right note.

I still have a lot of hope for this season, but who do we definitely have coming in the next class? I see a lot of names mentioned on this thread, but I have no idea who has signed, who we should get, or who we have a small chance of getting!

The two incoming freshmen that can compete and make an immediate impact are Kiya Johnson (Texas Dreams) and Kai Rivers (Twistars). Both are good on floor. Kiya is lovely on beam and Kai vaults very well.
Looking to next year (I.e. losing Finnegan, Kelley, & Priessman) I think it’s going to be rough, especially early on. LSU will be weak on every event except for floor, as I expect both Kai and Kiya to make the floor lineup. And although slim....I’m still holding out hope that McKenna comes back for a 5th year.

Kiya Johnson on beam WOGA Classic
Kiya Johnson on floor WOGA Classic
Kiya and Kai are strong bar workers, both will be in that lineup immediately as well. I have zero doubts Kai and Kiya will be immediate impacts day one. It might take some time to polish a couple routines but both should be big scorers off the bat that LSU has been missing these last two years. I feel great about their floors, both will likely compete 1 1/2s on vault.
Unfortunately, Caitlin Smith contributing is a pipe dream at this point.

Can they deny her the scholarship if she hasn't been training or staying in shape? I don't see why LSU has to be obligated if she clearly is not dedicated to the program. I say let her go or medically retire her if possible. That kind of person on a team can really bring everyone down.
