Bingo. It’s okay to criticize CBK for his recruiting. If he lands Desmond Ricks, it could only improve what’s a crappy secondary they needed to scrap together from the transfer portal.

If we land McKinley, it could only improve what will be a crappy defensive line next year that they will need to scrap together through the transfer portal.

At some point, you have to criticize BK for his roster management. It’s part of what’s holding this team back from being a title contender. He addresses areas of need a year too late.

Where’s the 2020 class that is supposed to be the backbone of this team, dickwad? Who royally fricked that one up?

This is his third recruiting cycle. We’re going to miss yet again on an elite talent in Bussey. We’ve lost a recruiting battle recently with Kentucky of all programs. We have regressed significantly in recruiting despite hype last year from some of the staff to land Simmons, Sayin etc.

The Colin Hurley eval has turned out to be horrible. Daughtery’s eval was also a swing and a miss. This recruiting staff outside of Frank Wilson needs to be heavily scrutinized. They’re not getting it done at the moment.

I down voted since all you did was state the obvious that everyone already knows. State something useful.

Yeah you can point to guys we missed and we can list guys we got. It's a give and take just like any lsu coach. I can tell you Orgeron landed higher ranked classes and I can also tell you that the majority of the talent in those classes never worked out.

You keep saying Kelly isn't filling positions of need, but fail to acknowledge that every position was a position of need when he took over because of how depleted our roster was. He had to fill talent gaps at almost every position, especially on defense. Most of those gaps have been filled. Some, like CB, will take a year or so to notice because most of those guys are freshmen.

My point being lsu gets and misses on elite talent every year and when you are tasked with replenishing elite talent at most positions on a team it takes time. The only real area where Kelly hasn't restocked talent is interior d line. Feel free to complain about that but other than that Kelly has been doing well all in recruiting and on the field all things considered.

All great programs will hit portal hard and that is the future of CFB.

2019 and 2020 had some good players, but the vast majority were either not good or transferred

Our 2024 class is currently ranked better than that. I agree we need to improve but I still have confidence that things will work out.

I think BK's hit rate on prospects is going to prove to be very high in the long run. In fact, I think the services will begin to notice that as well and in a couple of years you'll notice when we offer someone, their ranking will improve.

We do need to get some damn DL though.

The misses he's had are just more glaring because we haven't had any depth to speak of.

Very true, and I don't disagree with people saying we could be a better team had we got X player in the portal or hs. The part I take issue with is trying to pin all this on Kelly, and only mentioning the recruiting misses while ignoring the wins.

With our lack of depth and being in the NIL era it's going to be a give and take of who and what positions you focus on fixing first. We've really improved our offense by getting top o line talent in the door. On defense we signed promising talent at CB that will take a year or so to be recognized/developed and we have got some real future studs at other positions like DE and LB. Interior d line is the biggest recuiting hole on defense at the moment.

O was a top recruiter and dline coach and he effectively left us with minimal talent there making that hole in the roster all the more glaring. Not to mention the talent we retained, like Smith, have been constantly injured.
Kelly has to fix that, and he knows that. It will just take more time than most on here can accept due to the amount of players/positions Kelly had to fill when he took over.

Ditto all that.

It's not Kelly's fault that O left the D-line in the shape its in, or that Cain quit, or that Lindsey got sick, but it is his responsibility to keep the show going.

We could go into an off-season with defensive tackle being the only hole on the roster. That's a big improvement from where we were.

In todays world your better off with top ten recruiting class and a top three transfer portal class vs a top 3 recruiting class and a top ten transfer class.. 5 and 4 star High school recruits coming in making more than most college graduates a year isnt gonna translate to success on the field like it used too. I want the proven sophomore and junior's.

He will still be the scapegoat in year 5 of Kelly. It’s pretty sad. Excuse excuse excuse.

BK has missed on a lot of Louisiana talent. Only reason he got Anderson back is because Saban didn’t want him.

LSU is currently the 6th ranked team on 247

All true; however the 2024 class is a huge concern.

Call me naïve, but I think this guy can get just top 10 classes to the national championship. Especially if he can get all of his players to stay as opposed to the attrition of prior staffs.

This is the most level headed and honest accounting of the state of recruiting for this cycle.

It's not where anyone wants it to be, but neither is it a catastrophe either.

There are some holes to fill, and were going to have to hit the portal hard for hand in the dirt defensive linemen and safety, but the rest of the position groups are in pretty damn good shape. Corner is going to become a strength moving forward, if we can get good development from the guys already here and the ones who are in the boat.

If we can get a few guys on the line to come back for another year, it gives us a little more time to replenish the Dline, and I think we can realistically expect a top 5 or even top 3 class next cycle.
