REC & Building HS Programs

Watching the Alabama championships this week and it is obvious what the REC is doing—building high school “programs” to entice recruits from out of state so that they become “feeder” programs, where all the transferred recruit’s teammates, friends, girlfriend, coaches, etc. are pushing in-state. First was Hoover, then Thompson which built a glittering new school with top facilities (and lured Tua, his brother, and the “8th grader” from Hawaii/Colorado that won it last year):
Thompson
Then Saraland, which started pulling kids from Mississippi:
Saraland
And then Gulf Shores (at least until they got busted):
Gulf Shores
Just curious if LSU is doing anything like this?

Mobile Christian, Saraland, Spanish Fort has the Mobile area on lock. These private schools can get away with it. Saraland broke away from Mobile County public school system knowing they could win multiple championships

I’ve been to the new Thompson HS and it is impressive—a lot more than the “working class” community of Alabaster can afford. Someone is writing these districts (and the parents) checks!

LCA, Catholic of BR and some of the New Orleans Catholic schools would be the easiest to replicate at.

You think college boosters are doing this to somehow pump up Alabama’s recruiting?
Lol.
Tua transferred after he had committed. Had he committed somewhere else, he would have moved there.

I must have missed where the REC is mentioned in the article.

They are funding the facilities and school construction. Thompson is as impressive a facility/school you will find anywhere and will attract families with their top coaching and development .
Yes, it’s a great model and since Bear the state and program of Bama has shown its willing to go above and beyond others.

Alabama as a whole seems to be making a push to rise above the Arkansas/Louisiana/Mississippi region regarding education.
I can’t stand Alabama fans, but the state seems to be making some improvements overall at luring industry and improving education at multiple levels that other states along the Gulf Coast aren’t/won’t.
I don’t think this is all about football. This is about building the infrastructure necessary to attract industry and to grow and retain a workforce to feed that industry.

Seek help.
Building up these massive schools and athletic complexes has nothing to do with Alabama recruiting or any other college.
Even if some retarded REC person thought this would he a good idea to help Alabama recruiting, the trickle down affect would be so miniscule and unmeasureable as to be meaningless.
Where do you people come from?

Yeah, thanks to the REC!
New Thompson HS
A simple google search shows this school was funded through issuance of bonds.
The REC had nothing to do with it.

I remember when they sent them all to St Paul’s, we had 5 bama players one year.
Thompson is the bama feeder.
Saraland just got really good and that attracts players, Gulf Shores learned from Spanish Fort and has apartments nearby owned by a big booster. Spanish Fort learned from Hoover and built apts almost on campus. The public schools cheat worse than the private schools and McGill, St Paul’s and UMS have all limited their scholarship programs recently and that’s led to more prospects for the public schools.
That said, mobile is not completely bama turf and if LSU hired right coaches we could be players here and in Mississippi Gulf Coast

The schools outside of city have gotten better bc no one wants to go to inner city schools anymore. Saraland started pulling those kids first. The private schools have taken a step back the last few years and must not be recruiting as hard. McGill can’t even make playoffs. This has benefitted schools on the outskirts of Mobile. Over the mountain schools have been doing it with Birmingham for a while. Mobile is just catching on. Kids in Mobile use to go to Spanish Fort that didn’t attend private schools. Now those kids go to Saraland. Gulf Shores had several Mobile kids on team. Now QB in Mississippi looking at MGM as landing spot next year. WR already ended up at Saraland. It all starts at the Park, where you have various coaches steering kids to different schools. NOLA has been pros at this for a long time.
