IIRC we signed Rohan Davey the year Applewhite came out. This is another case of 20/20 hindsight and Applewhite is grossly over rated anyway.

Plus he hates LSU. He let me know in person when I met him while he was at Texas. Seriously, his whole family used to be Bama fans. He is named after former Bama RB, Major Ogilvie. Whatever problems he's had with Saban as a coach, there is no way he would have ever played at LSU coming out of hs. Bama should feel worse about not offering than we do because he dreamed of playing there.

LSU has always been considered a good football program. Never had more than two losing seasons in a row until the Curley Hallman era in the 90's. Had winning record against everyone in the SEC except for Bama, Tennessee and maybe Georgia before the 90's. Even after the six losing seasons in the 90's LSU was considered a top 15 program overall.

LSU would not have been considered that good without good players. Sure there were lots of big time guys that went elsewhere. The 90's were the only time that too many got away. You'll always have jackasses like Fourcade and Landon Collins that think they are bigger than anything to ever come along in the state. The 90's were the only time LSU really lost too many guys that were recruited. It was also the only time LSU sucked.

College Football Data Warehouse is a great place to learn some college football history. They recently broke their rankings up by quarter centuries.

LSU has been a very relevant football program since the 50's. Top 10 in the country from 1950-1974.

Dropped to 23rd in the next quarter century (1975-1999). Bama dropped a couple of places and Florida came out of nowhere with The Old Ball Coach.

In the next decade LSU has been GREAT!

These are the good old days, The best is yet to come.

The SEC was great in that time period too. Bama-2nd, Tenn.-10th, Ole Miss-11th, Auburn 16th & Georgia 19th.

I never heard of Hilliard until his 1st game and of course was blown away. I was 15 then. Hilliard was slow and probably would have been a Rivals 3 star. Ha!

Curley offered him to be a DB. Now he is in the NFL Hall as a RB. If we ever hire another Halmman.......

Bubby Brister played with Tulane, not Alabama.

Brister signed with Bama, played pro baseball then ended up eventually at what is known as ULM.
