So, in another thread , there was a quote attributed to Saban, a comment on Xavier Hill, supposedly made after Xavier attended a camp at Bama...

I was under the impression that coaches are not allowed to comment specifically on individual recruits, until their LOI's are actually received...

So, was that comment:
A)- made up?
B)- insider info from behind closed doors from someone in Saban's inner circle? Or,
C)- Did Saban commit an NCAA recruiting violation?

That poster was hiding in the bushes in Tuscaloosa during an Alabama camp with a parabolic microphone and overheard Saban telling that to his O-line coach.

You can comment on the recruit, you just can't mention him by name.

This really is a sick obsession that people have. Coaches can't make public comments about recruits (e.g. press conferences, media interviews, booster meetings, etc.), but they certainly can talk specifically about recruits to those involved in the recruiting process. Most likely (like 99.9999999999% certainty) this quote is from one of his coaches, family member, or adviser.

I heard Saban asked what his favorite food was and Hill said gumbo.
Saban knew his chances were slim.

D) A Hill quote explaining what Saban told him and his family when he was recruiting Hill.

It isn’t hard to find it.

quote:

During an official visit to Tuscaloosa in June, Hill, his mother and stepfather sat across a table from Alabama head coach Nick Saban. They listened as Saban told them Hill had All-SEC potential.

“Your kid’s got something that a lot of these kids don’t have,” Saban reportedly said.

“What’s that?” Gross said.

Saban snapped and hit one hand against the other. “He comes at you with snap, with the intention to do damage,” Gross recalls Saban saying. “I’m trying to teach players that right now (who) are already in my system.”

Sick obsession? The guy is asking about a quote about a recruit. What’s so sick about that?

He's asking about a quote by Saban (it's in the fricking title) that was obviously said during the recruiting process. Interpreting even the innocuous acts by Saban as a possible unfair act is known as Saban Derangement Syndrome, a subset of OCD and is a sickness. As is your obsession of distorting anything to make you look (in your mind) like a paragon of reasonableness.
