If Pooka is qualified, which many doubt, and he is thinking along the lines set forth in your post, he is going to wait too long to get into his best options. He might wait too long to get into any good options.
Unfortunately, some of these guys who signed with Kansas early, have bungled their most important decisions. Hope Pooka doesn't wait too late.

why have they not gone after J.D. Gullette of West Monroe. One of the best LB in the state.

That would be great finish. If a certain committed db waits to sign until Feb that might open up a slot for Williams or Beal. I really like those guys, especially with possibility of Beal growing into an OL.

If we have 20 (signed) by Friday and that list includes Cherry & Marshall we're in great shape. Given the legitimate targets for our final 5 spots, I'd be surprised if we take a LOI from Provens or Washington.
Next 5 by priority/need:

Joiner (RB depth)
Watkins or Chase (speed WR)

We finish with these and our rankings will shoot up and fill every need we've had for quite sometime.
It will also set up for 2019 and for LSU to take lots of risk if they wanted. LSU's staff could go crazy out there knowing that our needs are filled and don't have any pressing needs besides possibly QB and RB but the RB position is loaded. I would go get at least 3 or 4 more OLman/Tackles. I would go get at least 3 or 4 more DEs. Get 3 or 4 more LBs. A QB or two. 2 or 3 more WRs. Then 4 more DBs. A punter and kicker. Maybe 2 TEs.
I wouldn't start recruiting anyone outside of the top 15 at their position either. Unless there is an obvious diamond, I would go all in.
