I don't like the way things look right now with the out of state recruiting either but I'm not sure it is just the coaching staff getting lazy.
I wonder how much cutting ties with some of the recruiting "agents" has affected LSU recruiting.
Maybe some of the guys that we had been getting from out of state had been connected in some way to those kinds of situations.
Are the other coaching staffs that are "out recruiting" LSU right now doing it within the rules? Have some of the unwritten rules changed in the last couple of years?
Who's to say LSU may have quit playing a game that used to be worth the risk but no longer is due to the current NCAA stance on these kinds of deals?
I don't know that this scenario is likely but it seems possible to me.

We have top 5 classes every year, have as good of talent as any one in college football, and you paranoids are freaking out and condemning two of the recruiters in the game.Loiuis, Grainger, and Feist are horses and it's July. It's OK to get off the ledge now, scary cats.
I love the way this class is shaping up. If we keep Avery, which I think we will, and land Collins, which I think we will, that's a damned strong class. Add one more strong recruit and it's another top 5 class.
ETA: I'm not ready just yet to agree about a let down in WR recruiting. We did land RR and our 2 freshman WRs are apparently impressing everybody so far. Now the WR coaching....well, that's a different story.

+1 We need a coach to step up since we lost our last WR coach our recruiting hasn't been what it once was. BG has done absolutely nothing in recruiting and our WR havent done too much as well.some will blame on qb but there have been way to many dropped balls.
What coach could make you not drop balls? You can teach technique not ability. Some of you guys are so damn stupid!

4) Desean Smith - TE - Barbe (6-4, 220) - Listed as a TE, but he frequently lines up at wide receiver (mainly in the slot) in the Buccaneers' spread offense. Big target who wants the football in his hands. Isn't shy about calling for the ball. Teams up with '14 WR Trey Quinn to form arguably the best pass-catching duo in the state. Reports are circulating that Smith got an offer from Texas A&M last week.
I am hearing he is closer to 6'5" and 230 now. Would love to get this guy and his WR teammate!

He's had an offer for longer than a week. I posted about him a few weeks ago on this board when we offered
ETA: I stand corrected. You are right. He was just offered

Birkenstock says not to fear. all of his predicted commits are going down still and then some. AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK!

it would suck less if we actually were recruiting outside of the state of LA this year. Instead les decided to go full BBQ boys on all of his hires and now we get what Frank can land in LA, nothing from out of state besides the little brother of a former lsu star who lived in baton for a year and we still lose out on 2-3 of the top 10 prospects in state. Nice work, Les
LSU is recruiting outside the state of Louisiana. So what that Phillips commmitted to Florida? Can you not accept that some kids from Louisiana are just not interested in playing for LSU because they want to get out of the state?
Top recruits have left Louisiana forever. Trovon Reed, Joe McKnight, etc. I could go back 30 years. It happens. But it doesn't mean the coaching staff sucks at recruiting. Or do the recruiting class rankings under Les not mean anything?
And as for Les and staff concentrating on recruiting Louisiana, isn't that what they should be doing? Louisiana has enough high school talent year in and year out to stock a top 10 recruiting class. If that were not the case, then why are A&M, Florida, Alabama and Auburn recruiting Louisiana so hard? Do their coaching staffs not know how to evaluate talent?
Seems to me that Les and his staff have a pretty damn good eye for talent as evidenced by the signgings of Alex Hurst, Mo Claiborne, Josh Williford, etc; signings who many LSU fans screamed about because the player's star ratings were too low for LSU to even have an interest in them.
Maybe, just maybe, the reality is that Les and his staff know a little bit more about evaluating football players that many of the "experts" on this board.

what are we gonna get this year? One OL and either a lesser tier QB or a QB going pro in baseball? NICE HAUL.

LSU 24 Alabama 21
If LSU is "well behind" Alabama, then why is LSU ranked in the top 5 in the pre-season polls along with Alabama going into the 2011 season?
Do you truly believe there is a huge talent difference, if any, between a number one recruiting class and a number five class? You assume the guys who evaluate for Rivals and Scout never misevaluate players.

How do you know the above to be fact? Has LSU's class been completed and signed?

my bad...i thought we were talking about bama, not saban

no....but its definitely not "well behind"....and "even" is arguable. I understand you're just doing this to bash on Miles a bit but you're smarter than this.

so, to clarify again, ranking count but only when they say good things about lsu and there is no difference between 10 and 1 or 6 and 1. Only between say 17 and 10.

the difference between 5 and 6 or 1 and 2 is minimal if any. and honestly...LSU should've been ranked higher than bama last year. But Saban has recruited just as well and sometimes better than Miles.

and the OL is from New Orleans. Outside of the two QBs and a non-qualifer who is lieing about offers the OOS board is hopeless.

I just have to make one little correction to those "Bama vs LSU recruiting rankings":
Bama - LSU
2011 TBD
2010 21-24
2009 24-15*
2008 27-21 OT
2007 41-34
Those "recruiting rankings" look pretty even to me.
As far as OOS recruiting goes, I think we can all agree the numbers are down in terms of quantity. But the quality is still there when we do land OOS plays.
And a major factor in the numbers being down is the high level of recruiting going on in LSU's pipeline states: aTm, TCU, Auburn, Bama, and FSU have dipped into recruits that might have picked LSU.

Yeah, we all know recruiting rankings translate on the field. Ask USC and their ZERO BCS titles.
The line between 1 and 10 in small, proven by the fact that since 07, LSU and Bama have split and the fact all recruiting sites have their own opinions. Since we are splitting hairs, let's go ahead and add Jerrard Randle to the commit lists for 2011. That puts LSU 3, not 6.
