As great as the in-state talent is next year, LB stands out as being really weak with the best prospect being ~20th in LA. According to Scout, we only have 2 offers at the moment (Wallace from Dallas Skyline and CJ Johnson who is a Miss St commit). I would like to see us buck the current trend, and bring in some big names.

This is not as much of a need as people believe. Especially with the position changes that take place. With that being said the in-state talent pool will not be that deep. If the Tigers plan on landing an elite LB than out of state will have to be the route.

Seriously though, I foresee a bad time at LBer coming at some point. We never go after big enough names, etc. at LBer, and Chavis will keep taking safetyes and DE's and RB's and making them LBers, but when he leaves we will have a void in talent at that position without a prospect to fill that void.

I want Loston to stay at safety. Go out and grab a big, mean, ball-hawking MF'er like Chavis was able to do repeatedly at Tenn. Kind of like this guy.

How, you've got Kevin Minter, Lamin Barrow and Tahj Jones redshirting ready to start making noise. You have DJ Welter, Luke Muncie, and Justin Maclin coming in eager for special teams and playing time. I don't know that there are that many big time LB in LA next year except for the guy at S Plaq. Everything will be alright.

LSU needs a big time QB to step up next year and the running game to return - that is the big ticket issue.

Butler is underrated right now and Wallace is all LSU.

Getting to the NFL is a goal of stud recruits. It's a tough sell to OOS studs since we have only had 1 4th round pick in 20 years. LA not producing many stud LBs is a real hinderance in this regard. Hopefully Chavis can develop what we have to begin the reversal of this drought.

i.e. Kelvin Sheppard

I'm hoping Riley will get drafted in the later rounds this year. I expect Sheppard will be drafted too, but you never know. Beckwith was pretty much a sure thing until his injury.

How sure are you of that? Seems pretty unlikely to me given how the rest of the Skyline guys panned out this year.

According to another thread, Trevon Randle has a high interest in LSU.

QB and CB are a bigger concern right now...

We need to see what happens after Spring with JL/ZL.

Wallace would be a good pick-up,but tread lightly with him, because I see a Mike Davis repeat, leaving us missing out on some good prospects. The guy would most likely go to UT,if offered.

Wallace will be offered by UT as long as they think they have a chance.I've seen some Texas guys say they will not offer him because they think they have no shot. We'll have to wait and see.I never count on Texas guys until after the Texas offers come out.

YES to this. Key to 2010 is JJ development, inside push from the o-line.

I'm not impressed with our LB talent at all.I think we have some solid guys with maybe a good one here and there but nothing like the guys on the teams we need to beat to win the SEC and NC.Bama,Florida,Texas,Oklahoma,Usc and other top flight teams all have much better talent at LB. That position as been our achilles heel in recrutiing since Miles has been here.I think we will correct this in 2011 class.Imo too many overachieving albeit hard nosed white guys.I'm being serious. The guys that played high school football will know that there are a lot of white high school lbs that are really good but lack the overall athletic skills to compete in the SEC.Hopefully some of them start playing like the OSU/PSU guys.
