We're short on LBs so we should move to a 3-4?

I don't know about moving to it full time, but under chavis our de we recruit def have the size for 3-4 linebacker. But I only see valentine as a reasonable nose tackle.

We aren't short, that's why mingo plays linebacker in the NFL.

I think this would be a good move if we move to a 3-4 defense.

At this point, with our defensive line, it will be hard to fully implement a 3-4 in 1 year - probably take 3 to get nose tackles in school and coached up (biggest chokepoint right there) - we don't have lots of prototypical guys who can play inside in a 3-4, either, although Beckwith and Garrett could do that some in 2015.

So, I see us in some 3-4 packages in 2015, with TV at the nose, if we can nab another NT or 2 next year, move more to it in 2016 and 2017.

It is a more tweener friendly defense - take a guy who is a aggressive tackling high school DE, but not big enough to play on the end in college - say he's 255 - he can play one of your ILB spots, where he might not have the range to play Mike in 4-3. JMHO.

Same thing for some of our bigger safeties - they can play one of those OLB spots more easily than transitioning back and forth from a base 4-3 to 4-2-5 schemes (or nickel).

I'm not sure we have the DEs to play 3-4, yet, either, although a smallish, athletic tackle can fit there, as well.

Steele will play some 3-4 as he's already stated. The thing about a 3-4 in college, you typically use your speed-rush DE's like a Mingo or Danielle as your outside backers, so your idea has merit. There is plenty of outside talent on this team. Teuhema and Clark will almost certainly play in both schemes as may the two incoming DE's who are both speed rushers.

You deserve to be slapped for even saying this. Clark will be our starter next year at DE

I think we can cobble together the outside players - don't misunderstand - we have TV as a nose and, maybe, 2 credible ILBs - that's where we're hurting.

Unless we're going to do something crazy like move Magee or (big) Teuhuma to nose tackle.

I'm looking at Beckwith, Garrett and maybe Lamar Louis fitting the bill to play inside in a 3-4 scheme. Bower looks more like an 3-4 ILB than guys like Debo (although I think Debo can play outside in a 3-4).

I tend to agree with that.

Feist has the size possibly to move inside.

I like the idea of moving Patterson to LB. Has more upside there if he makes it to the pros. Possibly Voories and Thompson as well. We have plenty of depth at LB if we want to move some guys around, players who are probably better suited to LB anyway.

Is this credible...??

Not going to lie..always liked the range and possibilities of a 3/4.

Keep the nickle in 4/3 base for obvious passing situations.

I love the nickle as well.

I also think Devin Voorhies is a good candidate to move to linebacker. I'm willing to bet he puts on some good weight over the offseason.

We need to stay in 4-3 base period. I don't like running a 3-4 in college

We're keeping the 4-3. Steele said so. Besides, you dont go to a 3-4 without the NG position in check.

You guys have to stop thinking the LB situation needs this. Voorhies is moving and maybe Thompson. We dont need big lumbering guys who cant cover playing LB.
