Playing with the 247 Class Calculator gave LSU 300.46 for full class

I thought the best three players to fill out the class ( not necessarily the highest rated three ) were:
Sedrick Van Pran, Ashaad Johnson, Jacobin Guillory.
(I do think the most important of the three is Sedrick due to the lack of depth at center.)
The 300.46 rating would be top 3 every year except 2017 where Georgia was 3rd with 301.60. Heck, LSU was second in 2016 with 295.03 and 2014 with 299.29 as was Texas in 2012 with 300.12.
There is some inflation going on with the top classes since no team broke 300 in 2011, 2009, 2005, 2004, 3003, and 2001. This could be inflated individual player ratings or a greater concentration of top prospects in the top classes. The later is supported by there being a team in each of the last 5 classes with at least five 5* players.
I don't believe that these rankings are the most important measure of a class. That can only be done 4 or 5 years later when you can evaluate how the class developed. But it is fun to compare on a slow Saturday afternoon on the cusp of the season;-)

Nice info, I love doing statistical breakdowns myself so I always appreciate when someone else takes the time to put together a good one
this class is a monster

What about the other 3 spots

Can you please explain how they calculate a class? Plus, if you know, how rivals calculates their classes.

Keep a screen shot of it. When they do the last player rankings take a look at it again. I’m interested to see how much ratings change for players senior seasons.

Something else on 247 I don't understand. They rate players based on a scale up to 110 from 78. According to the scale, 90 to 97 are 4 stars, 98 to 110 are 5 stars. But in their player ratings their are several players with a .98 rating that are given 4 stars, not 5.

They have a limited number of 5* recruits. When they hit that limit it doesn’t matter what your rating is, you are now a 4*.
The #32 recruit is probably the same talent level as the #33 recruit.
There probably isn’t a big difference in team average between the 2.

Yea, they say they only have 32 5 stars to mirror the NFL draft, but that's narrow minded, IMO. If a guy is a 5 star talent, he should be awarded the star. Anyway, they say they have a rating of 101 to 110, and that is for elite of the elite type players. I've never seen one rated that high, have you? Seen the 1.0, like Lawrence from Clemson, but never the 1.1. I'd have to think a guy like Herschel Walker or Marcus Dupree coming out of HS would be one of those.

You're mixing up their composite rating with their own rating. Composite will max at 1.0 and theirs theoretically at 110. Lawrence was a 101 and Clowney, who I think may be the highest since they started doing this, was a 105.

I am not sure about Rivals, but historically, every service does it differently. I think most of them limit the number of recruits they count in some way.
For 247, it is easy to determine what they are doing when you open up the class calculator ( under the more button on the commit list ). for example, Roy and Boutte both have the same rating of 0.9768. Roy is somehow considered the 4th ranked player and contributes 26.18 to the class score while Boutte only contributes 25.07 with the same score. Clowney and White are very similar. Only a 0.0006 difference in player score, but a 1.64 difference in class score contribution.
In effect, 247 gives full credit for each schools top recruit with each spot below getting less credit. by the time you get to the 20-25 spots, there is much less impact upon the class score. Gaye only contributes 1.0 to the class score in position 22.
The key to a big score is having as many players as possible with scores above 0.95 and as few 3* as possible. Alabama had the top class score last year with only three 5* while Georgia had five 5*. Alabama had 13 players with scores above 0.95. You can not avoid all 3* because Kickers, punters, LS, and FB all top out at 3*.
I remember some service just looked at the top 15 people in your class since they figured that was a reasonable guess about how many would see the field. USC, in 2004, had 5 players ranked #1 for their position and 9 players ranked in the top 3 for their position for an 18 signee class. Some stupid service did not have them rated as highly as teams who were signing 25 or 30. I think that caused everyone to begin limiting. Dang, half of the class was in the top 3 for their position and they were not ranked #1. Heck even 247 had them slightly behind Fla St because they had 7 extra 3* players in the class.
On the contrary side, LSU has had great luck with some of the 3* position players signed including Justin Jefferson, Lloyd Cushenberry, Foster Moreau, D.J. Chark, John David Moore, Duke Riley, Deion Jones, Jalen Mills, etc.

I went with the Center RB combo from Warren Easton (Van Pran and Johnson) and the big tackle from ASH (Guillory).
Not the "best score combination" but it meets our needs and sweeps the DT in LA.
For the best numeric score, you would want the 5* RB Evans who is the only top 50 player who is seriously considering LSU as far as I can tell. Who knows what changes the upcoming HS football season may bring. Maybe some surprises await us ;-)

I think we've got a shot with phillip webb also.

You forgot one thing. After the December early signing period all Alabama players get a bump in their rating.
Think we finish in the top 3 overall. Nobody is catching Clemson this year. They might have the highest ranked class ever. We may pass Bama but it will be close nonetheless.

Clemson's class is absolutely nuts. They already have six 5* players are are the favorites for the #1 & #4 overall players.
Eight 5* players and the 4 best players in the class. I wonder if anything like that has happened before.
