Peterson and Mathieu were household names and were always being talked about on tv. They have 2 of the biggest defensive contracts in the NFL. If Surtain comes here, he could be the next one along with Greedy. I can't remember a Bama DB that was as popular as Peterson or Mathieu.

Even Jamal Adams got more attention than most Bama DB's

We don't need to worry about Bama DB's we need to beat them and win NC.

As popular to who? We're LSU fans. Of course our players are going to be more popular to us.

You don't think Collins gets hyped like crazy in the NFL? I mentioned it in another thread where someone said Minkah wasn't a household name but that kid just became the first defensive player since PP7 to win the Thorpe & Bednarik in same season. He's as household as a college DB gets, really. He's probably a top 10 pick too.

We really need to shift our focus from "players being household names" to our team winning games against Bama and championships. Who cares if a player is well known if it doesn't result in WINS for us?!

I'd pump the breaks on that. PP was a legit 6'2" 210-220lbs with 4.4 speed out of highschool. What makes Surtain more physically ready?

PS2 will be a household name Day one.

The best LSU DB comparison for PS2 is probably Mo Claiborne while at LSU. Peterson was simply maybe the greatest athlete playing DB ever.

Surtain will be better than Greedy. He is probably the most polished and college ready SB in the last 5-6 years. It is very high praise but his dad really is a great great coach. Pat is about as cerebral player as you will find and has amazing technique. Greedy has some of the best ball skills you will find. Those two will be an incredible duo.

The difference between LSU, Bama, and Miami, and what his decision will come down to is very simple, IMO we have Corey Raymond the others do not. Also seeing PS2 he already fits in with our DB group like family, I personally think he is a Tiger and a lot of the current commits see him already as such. I think the comment that his dad made about not hurting feelings was actually directed about Miami not LSU. (He has AHS teammates committed there and lifelong coach that is a friend there).

I personally think was the best recruit this year, and the NFL contracts or where guys from certain colleges ended up matter less, what matters more is continuing to be taught by the best technique wise (Raymond). Immediate playing time (LSU). Fitting in with his teammates, do not see the fit with the Bama class like I do with LSU or Miamis group.

Just my two cents
Also wherever he decides nobody should be mad at him he has handled his recruitment with class, nothing was about publicity or attention, so for that you can only commend him. Also commend his dad for not selling his son by taking a college job this year and waiting a year.

Pete Carroll said PP was not only the best CB at every USC camp, but the best "football player".
For the time, that was extremely high praise.

Surtain will sign with lsu. Not worried at all. Home is where the heart is, and his is clearly with lsu and has been all along. If he sign with bama, they paid his family some serious money.

Dude slow your roll.....guy hasn't even played a down in college and you somehow believe he will end up better than the two best DB's in LSU history. A little early to be saying stuff like this.

That's what all of the big scouting folks are saying. His skill set right now is above PP's. Just passing the word along.

For the record Patrick Peterson played in all 13 games as Freshman but only started 4. He started the last 4 games of the year including the bowl game.

I agree with the more rational thoughts on this thread, but these I don't.

After a few games this year, pros will not be in love as much as you think. iDGAF what some are saying about the draft. He was regularly beat when he played taller receivers who can get off and on man. He is a zone DB that relies on pass rush and to make plays.
Pro QBs can get it out quick in tight windows. They will burn him.
