O talks QB (Tiger Rag)

quote:

We have eight of the top 10 players in the state right now, and perhaps we may sign nine of the top 10 players in the state of Louisiana,” he said. “That was our goal: to target the state of Louisiana, and then get linemen. We got four great offensive linemen, five big defensive linemen. We’ve got some positions left to fill.”

One of those is quarterback. The Tigers signed two last year in Lowell Narcisse and Myles Brennan but lose Danny Etling and Caleb Lewis to graduation. They remain in the hunt for Alabama dual threat James Foster and will host more in the coming weeks before February’s signing day.

“We’re still looking for a quarterback,” Orgeron said. “There are several quarterbacks we’re evaluating that are going to come visit. Hopefully we’re going to sign one.”

Sounds promising.

I hope LSU signs one better than Baldwin.

Baldwin will be a great QB at North Texas in a few years.

isnt this late in the game to evaluate..we should have locked and loaded one by now.

From the same article re: Canada:

quote:

Asked if that relationship had been mended, Orgeron had the following interaction with WBRZ’s Michael Cauble.

How has that relationship with Matt been mended throughout the course of the year?
I don’t know what you mean by ‘mended.’

Well, you wanted to do something in the Troy game he didn’t want to do.
Well, I’m the head coach. We’re going to do what I want to do.

Have you been pleased with the progression…
I think it’s been fantastic. I think the offense has done what we wanted them to do. I think it’s been good. For us to win nine games, go 6-1 after Troy game, I think things have been great.

Shouldn't take a QB if it means missing out on any of Surtain, Joseph, Joiner, Goodrich, Watkins in my opinion.

What if the QB is Foster?

Well, Foster is the only QB left from the original list. If that list is to expand, it would logically include additional evaluations.

Also, maybe the new OC has some QBs he has been after.

(JK, kind of)

A-A-A-N-N-N-D-D-D here we go again: another bash O comment.

Do you think it just might maybe be possible that they've been evaluating all along, maybe even, OMG, have a couple on the hook? Or at least think they're still in play for a couple?

Oh for Christ's sake! Maybe he's just being honest! Nah, the Rant couldn't possibly accept that!

Devonta Jason and Justin Rogers are in the top ten. Do we sign one? I don't think so.

They are both top 10 as per 247, but on the composite rankings Rogers is #3 and Jason is #18.

If LSU signs Joseph #4 and Chase #1, we will have 9 of the top 10 according to the composite rankings.

They’ll take some QB that doesn’t have a prayer to see the field and will transfer out soon. Not having a QB in this class was a huge mistake but taking one for the sake of it is compounding the mistake.

LSU didn't want Jason in the end. Offered but that offer was contingent. Those plans didn't pan out.

If LSU can somehow get Rogers in the class or someone better, it will be a huge success.

Rogers signed with TCU. Am I missing something here?

You got that backwards...

We currently have 7 of 10 on 247 rankings (Chase #1). 247 LA 2018

We currently have 4 of 10 on 247 Composite rankings. (Marshall #1) 247 Composite LA 2018

Composite is generally considered the more accurate indicator.

Yep sure did and you're absolutely correct the composite rankings are more accurate.

Seems to be an awfully big disparity between them this year too?

Evaluating isn't a one time thing. Some kids progress during the year while some regress. Plenty of film left to go through on qbs. Is our situation ideal? No but at this point it is what it is. Unless some stud comes knocking (don't consider Foster one of those) I'd be more satisfied with a grad transfer who only hurts for a year, 2 max.

I'd also take a run at the Tanner McKee kid. He's gonna take a 2 year mission so not available until 2020. I guess how he counts would factor in

That's a shite list. More idiots involved don't always create a better product.

Also, Justin Rogers had a brutal knee injury that he is in no way guaranteed to come back from, at least not to his original form.

He should have dropped significantly.
