Check out these two links. 2011 recruit Aaron Johnson went to Houston last week for the Area Code Games tryouts and made the team. I think they pick up 23 kids out of 200. Impressive!! It will be great to see this kid pitch for LSU.

WOW that is very impressive to already have 11 commitments. We (Mississippi State) only have one but he is a really good one. Trevor Fitts who was the Alabama Jr. Pitcher of the year this past season going 14-0 with a 0.93 ERA and had 151 K's in 91 innings. Hopefully we will keep on recruiting good, and build our program up to where it compete with the likes of LSU, Arkansas, and South Carolina like we should be doing.

I had a chance to watch a few of the LSU commits play for the LA allstars this weekend. I was there watching my brother in law who plays for the Independence Indians.

My review

Joe Broussard
Very athletic he just looks like a baseball player. He played RF for most of the tourney. He has alot of pop in his bat.

Evan Powell
Played 2nd most of the tourney. Not amazing when he went benhind the plate. He has alot of gap power he hits the ball very hard but not really a HR hitter. He seemed to fit at 2nd.

Arron Johnson LHP
He looked very good on the mound. I think he gave up 3 hits in 3 innings and 1 ER. Fastball around 87 with a 2/7 curve on his curve ball. He will be a very good LHP for us.

I only recently heard of that place. Apparently the town is about as big as it sounds. I think it's in the Dallas area FWIW, which looks like an area we've targeted pretty hard for that class.

I went and saw the Dallas Patriots play tonight. This is the team that Bell, Story and Strickland play for. Bell played his first game tonight as he hurt his leg in his HS playoffs. Noticable limp but he has a VERY poweful swing. Story is an absolute monster. He will start day 1 at SS if he makes it to campus. I don't see how he doesnt get drafted top 50 though. Plus he pitched and threw low 90's with an exploding slider. He is a fantastic hitter.

Thanks for the info. Did you get to see Bell hit from both sides of the plate, and does it look like he has put on some weight? The only video I can find of him is from last Summer and he looked a little scrawny.

Trevor Story plays for an old friend of mine who coaches at Irving High. He reports that the kid is an excellent shortstop with some power (6 HR's last season). He was MVP as a sophmore in the highest classification in Texas and hit over .400 this past season as a Junior.

Bell looks good. Yeah he hit from both sides. He looks like a college reciever. Very good baseball build. He has a rocket arm as well. Nice player. Story is the guy though

Evan Powell has played 2nd one time for LA Allstars. He does need work behind the plate because he has been a 3rd baseman his entire high school career (all state soph. and junior year). As for power he just went 9 for 14 with 5hrs and 3 dbles in the BEST World Series but got hit in the head with a fb during the 1st inning of the semis so he couldn't finish the tourney. He was at the east coast pro showcase and got hit again during the 2nd inning of the 2nd game. I would say he has had a rough summer...

Like I said when I saw him play in BR he hit the ball very hard. He seemed more focused on hitting shots in the gap as opposed to have the type of swing that hits alot of homeruns. But I was not saying I didn't think he could hit homeruns. I think he is a great prospect.

MOT, with all of the madness with the 2010 class, who do you think are going to make us sweat next year out? That way I can just write them off and not get my hopes up again.

Tough to say with the draft being so far away. A lot can change between now and then. At this time last year Gausman was a consensus top 20-25 pick and really slipped in the Spring (and it wasn't all due to signability). Lee was considered a legit draft prospect but really cemented himself as a first round talent this Spring with incresed velocity on his fastball.

At this point it seems like Cave, Bell, and Baranik are all highly thought of and with the showcase circuit winding down we'll get a better idea as sites start to put out their rankings for the class.
