I wonder while Miles never signs a true Offensive Center.

I know we are recruiting the #1 center from IMG.

Our guard play would be more dominant if we had a true center to handle the inside.

Please enlighten the board on what constitutes a "true center".

Thanks

Ethan Pocic is maybe the best center in college football?

Dodd and Clapp were/are both "true centers"

A kid that has been playing the position during his formative high school years. Someone that goes to camps and gets more training at the position. Other schools get true "centrrs" so why can't we? It has to be better than teaching a guard the position. That's all the op was saying. Enlighten the board on why you feel this is unimportant. I'll hang up and listen.

Most kids that are at the level that LSU recruits are playing tackle for their high school teams.

Really based on what? Last year? The bama game? The Ole Miss game, The Arkansas game? We were blown up at the point of attack in those games. Yes they stacked the line and we kept running into those fronts but Pocic does not seem to be a prototypical center at 6'7". Seems like tackle should be his natural position.

I really know next to nothing about Cushenberry, I was very surprised when LSU signed him just because I didn't even know he was on the radar.

Seems like he could be Elliot Porter 2.0 though.

He set a career high against Ole Miss with 18 knockdowns last year. The only game he struggled in was against Bama. LSU's offense looked lost in the other two because the coaches overcompensated for the Bama loss and tried to completely change the offense in the last month of the season with an injured QB. LSU also started 3 freshman on the line against Ole Miss.

Pocic should get a shot to play tackle this next season if he wants it. He's earned that. But to say he isn't an excellent center is complete BS.

Very few centers in high school wind up playing major college football, since most high school coaches put their best linemen at tackle. The majority of powers in college football do the same as LSU and convert players from other positions. Just not enough true centers coming out of high school.

The last true center LSU signed who played center all through high school was Ben Wilkerson.

Ended career as All American and won the Remington award as the nations best center.

It was never a soft middle with Big Ben in the line up.

It's pretty simple, as others have said, the last place on the line a talented high school OL is going to play is C.

If Pocic plays center this year.......then Clapp probably is the starting center next year......but he's a converted guard and better as a guard.

Oh well.

I did not go back and look it up but I believe Dodd was a tackle and Clapp was a guard.

And you think this is because Pocic didn't play center in high school?
