Ben Simmons the 2nd

You say that like it's a bad thing. Were you living under a rock when Simmons posted unprecedented frosh numbers with arguably the worst coach and roster in the SEC? He's the single reason that Jones didn't get fired a year before he did.

Had we fired Johnny like we should have after the miserable Ben Simmon's season when Johnny lost control of the team, and hired WW then, Robinson would be playing for LSU this season.

"Worst coach?" Definitely! "Worst roster?" Definitely not.

We have had better top to bottom rosters at LSU; but the roster that year was not the worst. We had more than enough talent around Simmons to make it to the tournament and even go on a bit of a run. We just didn't have anyone capable of coaching that talent.

I'll concede my position somewhat on that, but looking at the roster for that season doesn't tell the whole story.

Hornsby never was 100% (but to his credit gutted out alot of basketball), Blakeney didn't start playing appreciable ball until the SEC reg season was more than halfway thru, and Craig didn't become eligible until after the fall semester. I think Patterson got 20+ mins per game that season... that's not a harbinger of solid depth

ETA - to be honest though, I for whatever reason thought that Darcy Malone logged more mins than he did that year and was prepared to use that as evidence of us having a shitty roster. That wasn't the case until the following season.

I don't question his talent, only his attitude and heart. He will be a very good NBA player. NEVER a great NBA player.

Ben was historically awesome at LSU and is a far more gifted ball handler than Robinson.

The comparison is actually pretty shitty.

My point was there aren't a bunch of Euroleague and CBA teams beating down doors for 18-year-old American kids. It's just not usually an option like you think it is, even for someone like Robinson. The team that Mudiay played for didn't really get anything out of it. Most foreign teams simply don't care for the hassle. The kids (even Mudiay and Jennings) aren't ready to contribute for them and there's no major positive publicity they get out of it.

If he wants to be one and done, the best thing to do is go back to WKU and play that one year.

Sitting out would be the worst thing he could do especially if he has no intention of playing college hoops.

Honestly, if he wants to be one-and-done, his best option is to go to Kentucky, "sit out" his "transfer" year, and scrimmage against lottery talent in front of dozens of NBA scouts every day, a la Enis Kanter. Otherwise he's just Hassan Whiteside coming out of Marshall--uber talented and formerly highly recruited, but with personal baggage and good production against mid-major competition. Sure, Whiteside is getting paid now, but Kanter got paid from the start.
