Polian is a mad man at the moment. And SEC teams should take notice. Let’s see how things shake out but in the long run maybe this was better for LSU. We can now go and we get a lot more experienced college players than say Alabama, Texas A&M and Georgia who have filled up their classes with high school players. I’d much rather fill up our roster with some experienced college players right now instead of high school players. That’s what our team desperately needs at the moment. We have alot of positions of need unlike the other schools just mentioned. I could see LSU with Brian Kelly now being a nice pull for a lot of players that feel like they can get into the NFL better at LSU and probably get a better NIL deal. Oh yeah, and a better shot at a championship. ;)

the problem is we need guys who can still play 3 years. you sign the guys with one year of eligibility and we can't replace them the next year with the hard cap of 25 scholarships.

i agree with the basic premise, though - we need to use the portal.

Polian is the first to earn his salary right now
I guess Austin Thomas dropped the ball that first month in identifying the portal

I think we will see a mix. Let’s use the 7 spots for guys who have alot of experience and the others on 2-3 year guys.

We still have a chance of signing a top 10 class with NSD in February. We land Jacoby and a few more sleepers n 2022 class along with some portal players and we will be fine imo.

I don't see any way the 25 hard cap lasts in this transfer portal era

Pretty much every SEC team will be losing at least 5 a year between portal defectors and NFL early entrants. Some more like 10-15. Will be very difficult for teams to keep 85 scholarship players like that

LSU fans are becoming soft and constantly looking for ways to spin this into something good. It’s ok everyone… we’re in a bad place right now… and we’ll bounce back. But it’s going to take time.

I see everyone hype about unranked players out of high school that are in the portal, and think they’re going to put us over the top. I see people talking shite about aTm and saying they’re all going to end up in the portal, they’re cheating, etc. Be honest with yourself… they’re killing it and we are not at the moment. Recruiting is and will always be the life blood of every successful team. Yes the portal has changed college football, but you’re not going to win a NC with a roster full of new portal players every year. It takes continuity, development and stability. Everyone relax… stop trying to spin this shite. We are a shite show right now.

Outdated thought process. Between transfer portal and NIL coordination the speed at which you can bounce back has NEVER been greater.

Each team should now be viewed as a year to year proposition.

Cole tracey was one of the best decisions Orgeron ever made and he was pummeled over it because the guy only had one year of eligibility.

The timing on this new landscape could never be better for LSU and resetting the program.

People are severely underestimating the benefits of bringing in more physically and mentally mature student athletes.

I think the big thing is getting high school players that will stay and develop into vital contributors. These past few years seeing all of the talent that hasn’t materialized into starters or just straight up leaving is what has caused these last two years. Especially on the OLine. If we can get proven talent in the transfer portal to go along with players who are evaluated correctly well we can be much more competitive these next few years.

Bounce back? Sure

Win a NC… not with half a roster full of portal players.

Giles from Texas Tech is a more accurate example of what the Portal provides than let’s say a Burrow. There’s going to be way more misses than hits. Now you go get a bunch of kids like Ricks who is now at BAMA, then I’ll change my tune. But these 2 stars who have one good year in a system that makes them look better than they are…. Isn’t going to bring championships.

Half the roster? Dude, we’re just plugging holes with a few proven players here and there. No need to be so dramatic.

Check out who is actually in the portal right now. It is pretty thin and weak.

Can we sign more than 7 out of portal if it doesn’t add up to 32?

Like out of our 25 available scholarships , if we don’t fill all of them can we have more than 7 out of the portal?

Are the replacement 7 the max you can sign out of portal?

Trying to ask question in a few different ways in case it’s hard to understand what I’m asking lol.

I’m guessing if we only sign 15 then we can sign 17 out of the portal if we wanted to. Legally. Obviously it’s not gonna be that many though. It could get there by the time the season starts though.

If we could get some 2 or 3 year guys from the portal that would be nice. Hell , we have the room , especially if what I asked above is legal. Why not sign as many as possible and then save a few to roll over and then a few spots for the guys that hit the portal after summer depth charts come out.

I’m thinking we sign a bunch of linebackers , corners , and o lineman. Then we let them battle that shite out at practice

I don’t think the class is gonna be small, I can’t imagine us not getting a couple ND guys after spring when they see where they stand. It’s just too beneficial of a situation for all parties involved. Kelly gets guys he knows are what he’s looking for and the player gets a chance to play faster under a coach he already knows, they may be deeper at certain positions than we are, ya know ?

I keep seeing this said all over this website. Do the posters on here think that the roster for the bowl game is the roster for next year , Minus incoming freshman and transfers?

I think a lot of folks are under the impression that those 37 are the only players who are coming back. Opt-outs and transfers aside, we had a ton of players out due to injuries. Some were probably COVID protocol as well if I had to guess. Then there were the academic issues and holdouts (Brennan, Nuss).

No way we get back to 85, but we could get to 70-80 depending on the remaining draft announcements and whether we get any of the guys back who are in the portal.

It’s still a shite show but not as bad as the bowl made it appear.
