You’d think Shawn Kemp would have a kid coming along at some point

That is a lot of players. Miller would be our 3rd in this class, and we might be shooting for 4. No way we go past 5.

Six players on the current roster are Seniors/Grad students. And given the volume of yearly transfers I don't think it is unreasonable to believe LSU might lose an additional 2 or so players to the portal (Not an LSU "problem". Just a college basketball "problem"). If that happens, you are looking at replacing 8 players. So a signing class of 4 or 5 may not be all that surprising.

That said, McMahon made it a point of emphasis to get "older" this season with transfers. So I don't think he would prefer to go into next season with a roster primarily comprised of Freshman and Sophomores.

Trae, Wright, Baker, and Dean are the only ones running out of eligibility that I can see. Who else you got?

I know that Cook might move on if he gets to play this year, but he still technically would have a year left and is definitely returning if he isn't eligible. Damion Collins, if he has a superstar season could enter the draft, but also has another year.

So given your assumption that 2 other guys move on we could be looking at replacing 6-7 for next year. I think we would be wise to pick up one or two very quality transfers to go with 4-5 freshmen, probably 5. That would give us a good balance of experience and youth.

BTW, I don't think that losing 2 guys to the portal in any given year is a "problem" at all. Pretty healthy actually.

This dude had the biggest entourage of any we fed in last few years. It was comical when they walked up to tailgate. He himself seems very introverted and deferred everything to his dad. Would be great get.

Fountain and Wilkinson are both Seniors. Now, whether they have eligibility remaining I don't know.

I would lean more towards getting more guys in the portal than signing (relatively) large HS classes for a few reasons:

1. Transfers (generally) have experience. Some HS players may be more physically gifted. But until you see them play against college competition you can never be sure how they will translate.

2. Assuming the NCAA remains firm on their limited 2x transfer stance, a transfer COULD in some instances provide a longer benefit. You can only be assured you'll get one year out of a HS guy. After that, you are probably going to have to re-recruit him. If he leaves, you've wasted a year of development with (possibly) litter ROI.

Assuming LSU could keep some key players from this year's team, a class of 3-4 HS players should be fine.

Their first seasons were 20-21, which I am pretty sure was the "free" covid year.

I think there will be talent available, but not as much as in recent years. And I would be tempted as there will be a lot less the following years as the covid super seniors will be out of eligibility barring redshirt.
However we had a small (2) class last year and need to build with the youth. This class is shaping up to give us a nice nucleus moving forward.
