Where does her dad want her to go?
Posted on 9/23/24 at 5:28 pm to TigerFan112
He defended Maggie Haney and Victoria Levine (former co owners of MG Elite gym who are now on the suspended coaches list) even after there was proof of them being abusive towards their athletes and they were suspended. Hezly’s dad has stated publicly that they are the only reason she has gotten to where she is now in her gymnastics career (not the hard work his own daughter put into it). He also said (direct quote from the NYT article) “If I wanted her to come home happy and smiling every day, I’d send her to clown school; I’m serious,” Rivera said. “If my daughter has goals and her goal is to be an elite athlete, I need a coach to teach her the right things and safely, and to push them.”

And like essentially 90% of those elite from that gym have been steered to Florida over the years.

I noticed that there was a photo of Hezly and her family taken together at both Florida and Oklahoma but did not see one of them from the LSU visit. That may have no meaning but does seem odd. I've seen a lot of posts that say her family has ties with Florida which they think will be her choice. Also, there are photos of Hezly with each of the Gator's coaches. Whatever will be all of the recruits seemed to really enjoy their visit this past weekend.

She also only posted 7 photos of her LSU visit vs 13 for both her OU and UF visit. It’s possible she wants to post more photos that are different from the ones in her visit post when she announces her commitment. I might be reading into it too much but that’s just what I noticed about it

Good point! Who knows who reads TD, but another team reading this would probably use it in negative recruiting.

Happens in every sport and it is infuriating. These kids are making the bigest decision of their lives and a-hole adults throw shite at them and their families over the most senseless things. Some may sign elsewhere and decide to transfer in a year or two so wish them well and invite them into the Tiger family if they want to transfer.

I understand your point with recruiting, but defending an abusive coach and stating that your Olympic gold medalist daughter would be nothing without said coach isn't just a "senseless thing." Maybe his views have changed, but people should be allowed to talk about parents backing abusive coaches. I will add that this is being discussed throughout the gymnastics community, including Florida and Oklahoma. If it affects a gymnast's recruiting, so be it.

Not that it means anything but the entire roster, support coaching staff and former seniors start following Hezly within the last day

I still see them following. Who unfollowed?

I don’t think it’s problematic for him to say that. Many kids learn different ways. Some kids have to be pushed /not babied to do their best. Look at other sports where they scream at players. Does no one say anything about it because these are girls as opposed to boys? I don’t agree with Maggie but if they didn’t see a problem with it then that’s on them.

I meant following my mistake

My only problem is parents advocating for a coach that was shown to endanger gymnasts by making them compete injured. MH's suspension will end someday, and his comments will push more parents to sacrifice their gymnasts' safety and well-being for a chance to be coached by an Olympic-level coach.

I liked her story photo with the national championship trophy and all the coaches.

There is no better person that we could have next to Hezly right now other than Savannah. She is wholly equipped to tell the differences in culture from UF to LSU

I understand what you are saying, but it is also every individual parents right to raise their children as they see fit as long as they are not endangering them.
Even though we may not agree with them, every parent is entitled to their own opinion of what is best for their child, Unless they are breaking a law or abusing their child. We go down a very dangerous slope when we try to substitute our opinions for those of a parent.
