I'll admit I haven't watched a bunch of his film; but listening to Wade talk about him, it seems as though his strength is way more in his handling and distributing skills than scoring. And that he is really good at that part of his game. In fact Wade even said that he has a bit of hotdog in him when it comes to handling and that they will have to tone that down a little in him.
Gaines I've described as a shorter Tim Quarterman of sorts, and keep in mind while some have a negative view on Quarterman he was a pretty good player on the court. He's a guy who averages in that 4ish assist range in high school, so he's not a guy who is likely to come into college and drop 6-7 dimes a game like your better true PGs would. However, his scoring really picked up this past season and in AAU he showed to be force before getting hurt in it. He shot 44% from 3 point range on his high school team which is really what is eye opening. Thomas I believe shot over 40% from 3 as well this past season in high school play, and I know Cook shot 40% from 3 on 80 attempts in AAU ball last year. All 3 guys really are ball handling scoring guards. Which fits right into what Wade likes, and a huge bonus is all 3 can really shoot the ball, which is something outside of Mays last year who improved a lot, we didnt have much of from our guards (Manning is good too, but missed so much time).

Thunderbird what do you think about Jalen Johnson transferring from UL? Is LSU on his radar?
He's a 6'7" kid from University High as you know he averaged 15 and 7 for the cajuns and is nearly an 85% free throw shooter..................

This would be Johnson's second time transferring. IIRC he was Travis Ford's first signee at St Louis U. I thought he was going to be a good one there, but I guess he got recruited over and left the program.

No room for him right now. Going on his third college? Something is suspect.

First I heard, but I doubt Wade will be interested unless an extra spot opens up due to something like Watford staying in the draft. I think for the last spot (seemingly now) they are obviously focused on adding another big, which IMO is Cisse 1st and if not maybe look at Marcos Santos-Silva transfer from VCU who he recruited there. Johnson could be in there too, but probably not in front of those 2 since he's a smaller big at 6'7, 205 and not really a rim protector or elite rebounder.

Cook will play more than gaines next season imo
Admittedly, I have not seen a ton of Gaines. I have seen Cook play 4 times in person and the talent is obviously there but he's so inconsistent.
I know Wade loves long guards, especially long guards that can handle the ball. I think Cook is feast or famine and there will be an adjustment period. We will see, but I think a 6'4 freak athlete that is more of a true PG is more valuable as a Freshman than a 5'11 scoring PG.
I love Cook, I'm excited to see what he will do at LSU, this is not bashing him at all. I just think between Smart, Thomas, Manning, Gaines, Cook, (possibly Hyatt), someone is only going to play half the games.

I think most would agree with you that the upside on Gaines is higher than with Cook and that it is likely Gaines ends up the better player.
But why we think Cook sees more time over Gaines their first year is because Cook is more physically ready and has a game that’s still near Gaines’s level right now. Gaines has a ways to go to fill out and bulk up his frame some and likely will not have the in person services of Greg Golden till August at best. Put him against some experienced guards in the SEC and he will get bullied all over the court.

Re Gaines needing to bulk up... If the kid can run the offense, Is super quick and can
Dribble drive and dish to the bigs or create offense off the dribble and shoot the 3, he will be just fine. I can name 2 smallish guards that did amazing in college and one was one of the best ever. Allen Iverson and Tremont Waters come to mind.... 165-175 lbs and amazing guards. If Gaines ended up close to that good at his size, he will be an amazing asset to a loaded team. Can’t wait for next season!!!!!

Not that it necessarily pertains to us, but Greg Brown, the No. 9 player in the 2020 class, just committed to Texas over a six-figure G-League deal.
So it is possible for Cisse at least
Also, Cisse is releasing a top 6 next week. Seems kind of odd you would release a top 10 and then a top 6 and head the G-League route
So it is possible for Cisse at least

No decision from Emmitt yet. Isn’t Sunday the day?
Posted on 4/24/20 at 6:15 pm to Elleshoe
Technically it is, but I think a lot is up in the air because of all of this.
It's supposed to be 60 days before the draft, but seeing as how the draft likely won't happen in June I don't know if they're going to keep a set date for it

You’d think they keep the date the same so coaches know how many spots they have.

Word on the street that Frank Anselem may still end up at LSU. LSU is still active recruiting him

That wasnt the message on premium boards recently, was told we moved on after gray, since focus is all on cisse now. Wasnt coincidential he posted that "my recruitment is wide open" after gray committed.

Got me nervous that his coach says he doesn’t anticipate him reclassifying

Most likely smoke and mirrors, hes nearing a decision and cutting his list, doesnt sound like a guy staying in his class

When do you expect we’ll hear from Williams?
Posted on 4/25/20 at 1:26 pm to Elleshoe
I think with this virus and uncertainty around the nba and pro sport around the world, Williams stays and so does days and Trendon. It would be amazing if we only lose seniors and everyone back. I do see college basketball playing but with no fans until February. I know colleges are making plans and due to law suites will have students on campus and thus basketball can play. Football will move to the spring and a lot of high draft picks will forego this coming season.

Mark my word, what I’m saying is 100% accurate.
