As of last night it was 50-50.
Then news broke today. He’s not fully decided to leave yet.

Think they would be fine for next year, after that, might see a slight dropoff.
I dont see why kids wouldnt be eligible to play elsewhere next year. Makes no sense

Change of topic but why hasn’t lsu offered Braylon Montgomery from Walker who is committed to Oklahoma
Potential guy we can get out of the portal down the line?

A&M had better returning talent last year than what UT has this coming year. Of course injuries also played a role in A&M’s outcome. This is very subjective, but I think Vitello is a bigger part of UTs success than Schloss was at A&M.
I wouldn’t bet on them missing the tournament, but it’ll be interesting to watch.

I'm going to be shocked if it actually happens. Just feels like a leverage situation to me.
He's gonna savor every drop of the attention. He doesn't miss Gilbert that much

The longer it drags out, the less likely it is (in my opinion).

I know for a fact it's not this. The interest on both sides is genuine and the conversations have been happening for a while now. (ETA: A while meaning well before the job was open) His name coming up for the Braves job was all bullshite. This never was.
The original leak of his candidacy for the job came from the Giants to gauge fan reaction to the possibility.

Someone in this thread mentioned that Weatherford took McLennan's recruiting coordinator and has since started loading up on talent. Weatherford just got a 2027 commit. A JUCO just got a commit from a junior in high school. That's not a routine occurrence.

With all the paradigm shifts we've seen in baseball, I guess I shouldn't be so surprised
But the pressure he would have on him to succeed might be Jackie Robinson level. He would have to win more there than he does at Tennessee, and he would have less of an effect in getting it done.
I mean the very best in the business might affect 5-10 outcomes in a 162 game schedule. And seems like if that's where he ultimately wanted to be, his path there would have been much different before now.

Where can you see which players LSU has offered?
Posted on 10/20/25 at 6:20 pm to AlecRock23
Maybe in Jay’s office?
If you have a particular kid you’re wondering about, ask Project. He is more informed than anyone not paid to do so, and most that are.

I’ve asked about Braylon Montgomery from Walker and nobody replied to me

No position players from LA in that class
3 pitchers were considered, only one offered from LA and he was a FR when they did
Jay was straight up with those kids and handles that side of it better than anybody he’s competing against

Could he be a potential portal target down the road
Eta: I think LSU should recruit nationally in high school and Louisiana kids in the portal

I would be surprised if we didn't at least kick the tires on Montgomery. I don't know the story there. Measurables alone will have scouts drooling, so it may be irrelevant who he's committed to. We have a nice 2026 class of outfielders coming in and will return some guys, too. Not worried. The transfer portal also changes how you look at roster construction from a recruiting standpoint. We could bring a Montgomery like talent in that has some experience already.

I am hoping we can at least bring him here through the portal in a few seasons
ETA:wish we could have brought Sanford back when he was transferring out of New Orleans but he went to ole Miss

Southern Miss is hosting UCSB opening weekend of the 2026 season. That's a good match up of two of the top mid-major pitching factories in the country. Southern Miss has a bunch of Louisiana kids on their pitching staff too. I wonder if any of them would ever make their way back to LSU, but I don't see it happening. The Harris kid is legit though.

I like the Sunstrom kid.

I like the Sunstrom kid.
When I saw he was getting a mid week start last year against either OM or MSU it made me feel 150 years old

I think he pitched against both Ole Miss and Miss St. I know he pitched against Miami in the postseason.
