Portal shopping starts earlier and earlier each year. Rice just fired Jose Cruz Jr. They've been really bad the last few years, but I think they have a decent arm or two this year.

Plog's stats are bad, but his recent outing was an improvement. Still not great, but better than he had been. I don't know if he's coming off an injury or something.
Either way, we're still tracking new JUCO pitchers regularly. We're also looking at a JUCO infielder in Illinois.

Dutton by far the biggest surprise me to me, hitters are still hitting .272 against him but nobody is getting runs on him as he continues (like always) to limit free passes. Kept XBH it seems to mostly bases empty situations as well.
Not sure he continues to hold up through SEC play as we go along but feels like him and Cowan are 1 of the same.
I saw Cam Johnson got pulled after the first 2 batters this past weekend, saw somewhere it said "illness" anyone know what happened there? If he was too sick to pitch why pitch him

Looks like rice just hired David pierce. Good hire in my opinion. Great place for him to rebuild that brand

As a follow up here. Cam Johnson only lasted 1inn in his re-start yesterday giving up 3 er with 4 bb. So looks like more than food poisoning.
Another interesting one is Moffett. Still a ghost even with UT throwing bodies around for a 12inn midweek game.

quote:Yeah if it was only food poisoning, I don't understand starting him on a Tuesday and taking him off the Sunday line? Just throw a simulated game or stretch out his bullpen if you want him to keep his body ready for a Sunday start.

Ethan Plog might be starting to put it together. After a decent outing last week, he put together a good one last night. 6 Ks in 4 IP. 2 H 0 BB.

Hard to tell vs a team they beat 22-0 and is 4-16 on the season.

No, it's not hard to tell.
Regardless of competition, his outing yesterday marks an improvement over the way he was throwing earlier in the season. And it's second outing in a row that shows improvement.

Ruckert with another home run against team from Florida
He wasn’t known for power coming into his sr year
He could potentially have a curiel impact - he’s a really good hitter

Alex Hernandez; freshman this year, 6'2 190, played 3B in high school, played 2B for GT until their 1B got hurt and now playing 1B while he's out. .351/.437/.691 slash line with 8 HR and 15 total XBH in 97 AB. Was a Top 100 overall player on PG coming out of high school.
Kyle Lodise (5'11, 180) also raking with a .380/.500/.800 slash line with 9 HR and 23 total XBH in 10 AB. Plays SS for them, transfer from a lower level and is flourising. Maybe be a draft risk though as he is a junior. This would be a harder pull obviously wiht Milam coming back at SS.
They have 2 sophomores hitting .400 and .415 but both went to high school together at Pope here in GA, both play infield positions (corners) but have no power to speak of (2 HR betwen the 2 of them). Probably a hard pull being buddies who played high school ball together in GA.
Last but certainly not least of their position players is of course Drew Burress (5'9, 180), sophomore (not draft eligible). He would be one of the top players in the portal if he entered. Small kid but had a huge freshman year with 25 HR and he plays CF. Hitting .337/.468/.714 currently with 8 HR and 21 XBH in 98 AB.
Tate McKee (SO RHP) is the only pitcher that kinda sticks out for now (2.97 ERA, 39 SO in 30.1 IP, only 11 BB). got touched up his freshman year at GT (8 ERa nearly). But seems to have settled into a good starting role now as their ace.

Project, a non-LSU thought: the 2024 Japanese high schooler LINK Sasaki who is a freshman at Stanford (hitting .303 to nitpick he has a lot of strikeouts) do you think Japanese high schoolers will start coming to US universities or was Sasaki a one-off? In researching I learned that Japan has college baseball.
