Just some macro draft thoughts from one of Baseball America's draft podcasts:
- There aren't 30 first round talents in this draft class.
- This is the weakest HS class they've seen since they began polling MLB scouting directors.
- College hitting is seen as the strength of the class, but there is no one in this draft that would have been a top 5 pick in last year's draft.
I heard Keith Law on Rates & Barrels, he basically said scouts and front office people are so tired of this class they just want to move on to the next one where there will be some talent to look at.
My own thoughts: This is why Konnor Griffin and Cam Caminiti reclassified. They're two of the top 5 HS talents in the class and they weren't even originally in the class. I don't know what Schmidt's number is, but the $3MM range has been thrown around. Based on where he's starting to be reported to go, it's possible he doesn't get the offer he's looking for. HS RHPs are the most volatile draft population, and it's already a down year for HS pitching.
We may see the fewest HS players drafted since the advent of the 20 round draft, but it's not as much a continuation of the trend as it is a down HS class.

They might not be completely wrong, but Condon, Bazzana and Caglione had incredible seasons. They would’ve all been in the mix for the top 5 last year imo.

Cags for sure, although last years top 4 were pretty set in stone

I mean put his name in twitter. You can see his many talents on display.
like i said I haven’t dug into it.
I also think it was dumb of my to say “he never” developed elite power. like the book is done on that. He’s all go what 18?

So was there a new commit yesterday we’re waiting to hear on? TIA.

No. Potentially a current recruit may announce pulling name out of draft. Just speculation at this point.

Great post and thoughts

This may be the weakest overall draft i’ve seen since I started paying attention to it. Outside of the top 10-15 college guys, there isn’t much to like

Patiently awaiting this announcement you promised

I'm not saying he is definitely full of it, but the guy made that account 2 days ago and all of his posts have been in this thread.

He said he is posting it on his socials at 2 pm central. Wish he would have done it this morning so we could wake up to good news…
