Solo is correct about the velocity. It was reported that he hit 100 before ever arriving on campus but he never did it all LSU. The seven strike outs were impressive though.
I imagine they tweaked his form. Usually that means a step backwards before, hopefully, two steps forward. That doesn't always sit well with players or perhaps the coaches felt the development wasn't coming along quickly. We are all guessing at this point.
We all had really high hopes, so it really sucks. The flip side is, I would rather lose players that are not playing and be able to sign players that are excelling at other colleges. We are grabbing starters, not losing them and that is a wonderful thing.

Just guessing here but I don't think Jay would've kept him around the team in the stands in the postseason if he wasn't in our future plans. I think this either means Cam wants to leave or Jay is sending him somewhere to get more PT for a year and he comes back

I watched a number of scrimmages in the fall and spring, and I don't recall Cam throwing 100 in any scrimmages open to the public. He sat 95-96 early in his outings from what I recall and would dip to 93.
Thank you. I asked this about 5 times and I usually get downvoted with no responses. In the outings I seen in the spring, he sat low 90’s and I wasn’t sure if it was because he wasn’t throwing his 4 seam or if he was taking some off to throw strikes. Either way, doesn’t make sense for someone to neutralize their #1 asset.
Last year I seen several scouting reports mentioning he had arm fatigue. I wonder if he just has horrible stamina and can’t take much of a workload. It’s interesting with a guy his size that he can’t hold his velocity.

He didn't throw many innings at IMG as a senior so yea the stamina thing was real and highlighted preseason. The whole velocity thing with high schoolers always gets over valued because many times the "99mph fastball headlines" more times than not it's these showcases with a ton of adrenaline and juiced guns where they are letting it fly with no regard to game situation.
I wish Johnson would have stuck it out but I can't say I'm surprised, there's no doubt some big schools are going to reach out because of his potential. I'm sure a weekend rotation spot is his leverage right now
Jay doesn't have the luxury of sending him out there ala some minor league organization and hoping he finds it next year 75% into SEC play. Kade Anderson out pitched him all year and showed more.
Wish him nothing but the best.

Seeing rumors Zach Root is in town this weekend. Any validity to those?

Name to monitor:
Wichita State Freshman pitcher Tommy Lapour. Believe he is highly regarded for 2026 draft. Now followed by Jordan and Rooney

Those rumors started here, take them with a grain of salt.

He was visiting Tennessee this weekend.

Unfortunately it seems like Tony V has a pretty good thing going in Knoxville. That little bitch field is enticing to recruits and portal guys and that prick of a pitching coach seems to turn out quality staffs year after year. If they actually manage to win a CWS that might be what puts Tony over the top.

Root and Alton Davis were here, allegedly and not just TD talk. I can't really confirm, though. I really like both of them. I wonder if Alton Davis wants a chance to start.
I really like Lapour, too. He's a bulldog.
I'd like to see a left side of the infield portal guy pop soon, even though it's so early.

Wes already has seven transfer commits. Not on topic but kind of crazy

Ah love this discussion, look across the nation with freshman developing all over the country. Why didn’t 1/3 of our pitching staff develop. Is that Yeskie? Is that everyone over valuing Johnson? Why can’t these highly rank guys come in and throw strikes? I don’t care who you are, come in a game and throw fricking strikes at a collegiate level.

Finally, somebody with common sense. If Cam was smart, go to a high level Juco. Pitch a shite ton, go to mlb.

Yeah so enticing to a pitcher. Are you retarded? Most college parks are small?

Not on topic for a recruiting thread? Who are they?

Davis wasn’t that great for Bama down the stretch this year.

I lurk on you guys hard for baseball, this Cam Johnson thing has me in a funk and I just couldn’t hit delete like i normally do when i type a response

Glen West said he’s watching Brady Neal entering the portal. Wouldn’t shock me if he and Paxton Kling are next. Both have recent follows of other SEC baseball teams.

Guy on the rant that started the whole steak dinner with the recruit deal is now saying the recruit was not Davis or Root.

I've heard rumors about him possibly looking. He might not have liked what he was told during exit interviews. You know Jay isn't going into next year with just Neal and Priester as his options behind the plate.
There's going to be quite a bit of roster turnover before next season. We could end up with like 20 new players when it's all said and done.
