Is the 2nd opening before or after fall ball starts?
Next portal window is in December, so basically guys will go through fall ball, see where they are at and potentially if they dont like where they are after fall practices could hit the portal...or if the coaching staff asks them to move on elsewhere as well thats when it can happen. Can transfer between semesters to be on a roster for spring semester.

I knew about the second portal in December. Didn't know if they could still play spring ball though. When I tried to read the actual rule, I was even more unsure. Thanks for that info.

I'm with you. I thought you couldn't transfer in December and play next spring. Maybe that is a rule change?

I'm not an expert, but I believe there are limitations. I believe if you drop down a level or go JUCO, you can play in the spring. If you want to go from Tn. to LSU, for example you will not be eligible in the spring.

That would make sense, but trying to read the actual rule was confusing. LOL. I think if you drop to JUCO, you can play spring ball. Not sure about dropping to a different division.

Anyone else find it funny that we essentially completed a bunch of trades with the transfer portal this offseason?
Auburn (Stanfield for Dutton)
Dallas Baptist (Benge for Bucknam)
South Florida (Dorsey for Dale)
Texas (Fontenot for Moffett)
We also sent Neal to Bama as the PTBNL for Holman.
We traded Bronzini to Eddie Smith for Dickinson.
No real point here, just a lot of funny coincidences.

Stanfield upgrades CF and LSU won this trade
Benge swapped pitchers with DBU, I would say even since we never really got to see much of Bucknam and not sure how much time Benge will get on a deep LSU staff
Dorsey was a win over Dale, players that leave before the season even starts either run from competition or the writing was on the wall, no playing time to be had and he was injured so he wasn't able to show what he could do in fall
Fontenot for Moffett is a wash, both struggled with command but both have good stuff if they can put it together, maybe the change of scenery will help Moffett but he had two years at LSU and eventually you run out of opportunities to throw him out there to continue to try and develop
Neal was hard to figure out from the injuries to the poor at bats to the baffling defense at times, he has some really good tools but the lack of productive at bats really stood out in sec play
Bronzini never really got much opportunity either and going back closer to west coast might help him

Sid Polston to Sac State
3 position players left LSU was initially interested in. I don't see that any have signed UDFA contracts yet, nor have they chosen new college destinations.
POSITION PLAYERS
Cole Christman, C, Southern Illinois, SR, #157
.289/.372/.493/.864 9HR, 25BB, 32K, 6SB
Hayden Jatczak, DH/3B, Saginaw Valley, SR, #213
.468/.551/.827/1.378, 16HR, 43BB, 26K, 8SB
Nolan Wilson, C/OF/DH, Nevada, JR, #219

Not too surprising considering how quickly he dropped A&M once Schloss bolted.

not surprised, figured it would be there or with butler at OU.

found this:
The second window for spring student-athletes takes place from December 1-15. However, if a player were to enter the college baseball portal in the second window, they could be forced to sit out the following season. There are exceptions, such as head coaching changes and athletic aid changes from previous years.May 29, 2024
Did Josh Stevenson transfer in the Dec. portal? I see he started 51 games for OSU. B/A .250

No, he entered the portal just before they went to Omaha in 2023

Travinski has made his debut for the Missoula Paddleheads in the Pioneer League. Pioneer League is now an Independent league. It used to be a short season Single A league. A lot of recognizable names in the league if you follow college baseball. And they move guys to higher levels frequentlty.
Higher levels being other indy leagues or even affiliated leagues.

Gonna remember that bomb in 2023 against Ole Miss for a long time. We had the series won but getting to sweep those clowns is always nice. Especially at Ole Miss.

I just remembered Jared Jones is going to play another year in college. The SEC is fricked.
