Ya, that’s one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever read

The idea of Jones returning, and possibly landing on 3rd base is interesting to say the least. But if that were to happen, who are the likely candidates to take 1st base? Is there anyone from the 2024 roster that should be considered? Maybe incoming guys like Hernandes, Yamin, or Costello. Any thoughts on this?

I guess I’ll be the adult here and say it; Jared jones isn’t playing 3b

Jones isn’t coming back to play 3B. Maybe catcher, but that’s a big maybe

I do think the most likely scenario is Jones plays first if he comes back.
But if Braswell doesn’t come back, I could see Jones at 3rd, Dickinson at SS and Milam at 2nd.
It would free up 1B and DH to get more bats in the lineup.
I think he could do it, especially if he loses a little bit of weight and is able to move around a little better.
A lot of people thought Tanks couldn’t play third, and he ended up turning into a pretty good third baseman.

tommy white was always a 3B.

For those that haven't seen Casan Evans before. He's not getting his due thanks to Schmidt, Caminiti, and Bateman.
He can throw 3 pitches for strikes and has hit 96 at showcases. He's really athletic too as you can see. At one time was rated the #1 pitcher in the state of Texas for his class. Not sure if he still is or not.

I can't wrap my head around Jones at 3B. I'm not closing my mind off to it, but I just can't see it.

He was mostly a DH his freshman year at NC State.
One of the reasons he transferred was because he wanted a chance to prove he wasn’t just a hitter, and he could play third.

Yeah, like I said, most likely scenario is he probably stays at first.
I just don’t think it’s crazy to think he could play third, and that maybe Jay is pitching that to him to lure him back for another year.

he played 3B in high school
imagine thinking he could say, play C all of a sudden going into his Jr year in college.

Did it in the fall out of necessity. He won’t come back to play 3B but people acting like Jones has never been on that side of the field, outside of a homerun trot, are wrong.

Catcher is totally different though.
Tanks transitioning from 3B to C would be way more of a challenge than Bear transitioning from 1B to 3B.
Especially considering Bear has gotten reps at 3B in the Fall.

I know he played 3B in scrimmages. I think Milazzo even logged an infield inning or so, but don't quote me on that. I know Frey did. And, I know Jones is not terribly unathletic or completely incapable. He actually turned into a pretty nice 1B. I just don't see it at 3B...yet. I'm never closed off on anything.

It’s not meaningless but it’s pretty close to being so
There are better ways to get bats in the lineup than putting a guy on the left side of the infield when he’s never played there in a game. Who has showed no traits of a player that could play 3b, other than having a decent arm

It’ll probably at least be experimented with in the offseason.
If it doesn’t work, stick him back at first. But if it does work, it just makes the lineup that much better.
That’s all I’m saying.

I don’t care where he plays if he comes back.
But I do think we may see it some in the fall. Whether it happens in an actual game is another story. But wouldn’t surprise me.

In general I’m a fan of pushing a guy as far up the defensive spectrum as they can reasonably handle.
But if Jones is going to work anywhere beyond 1B, I think it would be catcher rather than 3rd. He’s at least been practicing at catcher for the last two years. He moved to first because he was the best option at first not because he was the worst option at catcher.
