I’m not sure.
The transfer rules are most of the problem.
I still believe that recruits from far away will jump in the portal quicker.
I would focus more of my recruiting in the area.

Not trying to argue here but, Literally 100 of Tennessees HRs and basically all their top 2024 draft prospects were not from Tennessee. In fact outside of Tears, the majority of their starters in the field that are actually from Tennessee are average at best.
If you take Moore, Burke, Amick, and Dreiling off that team i don’t see them winning the CWS so those other guys actually being from Tennessee don’t really matter.

Not saying they weren’t but the Louisiana guys that want to be here ; it means more to them imo

But if they aren't good enough players, who cares? They need to be good players above all else.
And I don't expect LA kids to hang around multiple seasons on the bench in this era.

This we agree on. Jay is not the type of coach to take chances. He is going to roll with what gives us the best chance to win.

That’s the definition of supplemental haha. I get your point though. But can’t survive with massive portal numbers.

The bottom line is there is not enough home grown talent to fill a roster so you have to go national and recruit the best. In a perfect world yes it would be awesome to have home grown talent because I do think they are less of a risk to transfer. It’s just not possible in baseball.

Other than the high school Pearson kid , they’ve all shown they belong on this team and can compete

If Arquette does go to A&M that's potentially one less spot for Kent or Henseler. Or at least competition for them.... Posted on 7/2/24 at 7:42 pm to hessmersaint

I agree if they are good enough. But don’t sign in state players just because they’re from here. If they’re Kade Anderson types then certainly they should be a priority.

I agree with you.
This is a product of the rules of today. Of course I would like for a few more guys to stay and develop here, but I don't believe there is anything you can do to prevent it. If guys aren't doing well early then they are likely going to leave. I am okay replacing them with more proven guys even if those guys come from smaller schools. It seems like those guys who are excelling (especially hitters) are adjusting pretty well. I don't mean the average guys of smaller schools. I mean guys with impressive stats.
The idea of getting more local guys is nice, but I think you still take the best of the best. I think even a ton of local guys are going to transfer out without much playing time. I like all the OOS studs LSU has had recently.
I mean you can't keep playing guys that aren't producing. You have to also win now. The good thing is LSU got 3 Freshmen bats a ton of playing time that I don't think anybody expected. Hopefully they continue to play better.
Maybe I'm wrong, but not concerned about any of the players leaving as long as long as LSU is able to replace them in numbers.

This isn't about the players currently on the roster though. People are advocating making LA kids more of a priority, but are we missing out on top-level LA kids in the first place?

No time for player development anymore.
Even JJ spoke about this in his press conference. He seemed pretty upset about the situation.
Can’t build a program just a one year at a time team.
Say what you want, but as a fan that sucks.

Not many, but enough to make a difference in player retention.
Posted on 7/2/24 at 7:51 pm to hessmersaint
Oh I agree it stinks for fans and I’m sure coaches don’t like it either. But it’s what we’re stuck with for the foreseeable future.

They are certainly replaceable with proven portal players.
Who are all the proven portal players? Because many people thought that of Mac Bingham, Justin Loer, Kade Woods, Jack Merrifield.

That's how I perceived it as well. Basically you just have to adjust and adapt.

I agree
It just seems like we’re losing more than expected to the portal this year.

I’m asking you who the proven players that we have gotten this year are
