Jay will get another one in the next 3 years. That will be 2 in 5 years.

Just last year Tenn started about like lsu did in conf play and rebounded to make Omaha
They are losing as much as lsu lost last season so I expect a slower start out of vols and they will be better later in season
Championship hangovers are real and the fan expectations are gonna be sky high as they should be

I can’t wait for the next one. My wife is German and I’ve tried for so long to get her into lsu football with no luck. She fell in love with baseball after being forced to watch all the games last year. Went to her first game at the box this last year and she’s super pumped to try out Omaha.
Aight, I’ve derailed the thread enough. I’ll go back to just observing lol

It will be very interesting to see who finishes with more success, Johnson at LSU or Vitello at Tennessee. The fact that is even a question says everything you need to know about Vitello.

And the main differences between 2023 Tennessee and 2024 LSU were the outcome in a 1-run extra-inning game against the regional host and Clemson not even making their own regional final.

This year's tennessee team had a great recipe for a CWS winner.
It was largely built through the traditional recruiting route. It had holdovers from previous Omaha teams. It had long terms starters with a ton of SEC experience. They had good team chemistry after some missteps in prior years on that front.
And probably most importantly, it had a lot of guys still left from 2022.
They knew how to win, they knew what it felt like to fall short, they knew how to operate with a target on their back.
While it will create some institutional knowledge, they're losing so much that they'll hit a rough patch, but just like at LSU, it will restart the cycle. The rough patch will feed the success.

I as searching around for something to put on in the background while I work. On ESPN+ there is some HS baseball national championship being played at Schwab. I turn it on and of course they have Lyn Rollins and Ronnie Rantz broadcasting it.

Yeah so much is discounted on these big runs on everything just clicking at the right time and sometimes very unexpectedly.
Look at our run in 2023, everyone outside of LSU will talk about Skenes and Crews but to the title it took a lot of guys having their best season ever here and it was a perfect storm of that happening for a number of players.
- Jobert has a big leap from 2022 to 2023, he went from a .246 hitter who had power to a .301 hitter who had similar power
- Beloso is probably the craziest story of a guy everyone basically forgot about after his freshman year here in 2019, he got a lot of playing time in 2021 only to be pretty bad (.226 hitter), misses the entire true senior season the following year...then comes out in 2023 and hits .326 with a over 1.000 OPS absolutely being a monster
Then you have the guys who still dont necessarily have the good or great season but just step up and have huge impacts when it matters - Pearson's huge catch in the CWS; Hurd frankly sucking most of the season but comes out in the CWS and gives up just 3 ER over 12 innings against Wake Forest and the national title final against Florida (2 ER in 6 IP there).
People dont like to talk about the unexpected frankly a bit of luck if you will, but thats what it takes to have a national title team. It's not just about the best players, it's about guys who havent necessarily had that impact but suddenly do.

Hell, UNC and Tennessee were both a check swing from being eliminated by LSU and losing their first game in Omaha to FSU, respectively. Tennessee's winning run in the title game was a missed swipe tag by the catcher and a great slide by the runner. Without Morgan's flip to Milazzo on the bunt vs. Wake, we likely don't even make the championship. And I'm sure there were plenty more close plays like this that would've completely changed the season for many teams.

Pearson’s catch B9 Gm1 vs Florida
If UF wins game 1, you probably have to bring Hurd back on shorter rest to pitch game 2 and who knows who pitches game 3, likely Skenes on short rest as well.

We're not connected to him, but Daniel Dickinson from Utah Valley hit the portal. He's a 2B that can also play SS. Kiley McDaniel has him as a first rounder in 2025. He played the last two years for former LSU assistant Eddie Smith, who seems to be making some good evals at UVU.
ETA: We are now on him.

Nawrocki slashed .264/.352/.400 with four homers and 16 SB in just 36 games this spring.

Yeah we can go get him…. Those stats play

He is one of those short wearing dudes that would fit in at Miss State, but with those stats and a 1st round projection I guess my old arse can drop the “get off my lawn attitude” and embrace the “drip”
ETA: looking at his pictures I noticed that UV has a pretty sweet background view from home plate.

It seems like every school in Utah has an incredible backdrop for their field. Lots of natural beauty out there.
