That makes sense..he must not be eligible because I don’t think he’s been playing lately.

Big fan of jay, but I was wondering why our 2023 class is ranked so low at 11? Is it just really juco heavy or are we planning to hit the portal hard?

We have 2 JUCO guys.
It’s just more of a depth class than a headliner class.

Just saw that. Arkansas’ class is an eye opener but you’re probably right about us getting most of the #1 class back anyway.

They were at 9 last year with our eye opening class.

Last season LSU had about 8-10 players you can say was major draft risk with a few other borderline. LSU came out in great shape landing the talent and only losing 5 of those players to the draft. Was a heavyweight recruiting class.
This season, you can probably consider 2 guys major draft risks and have more of those borderline guys to worry about. If they can manage to only lose 3-4 guys to the draft this year I think that is a win and helps big time with depth.
Look forward to next season and you will see it will be another heavyweight class with big time recruits that will be major draft risks. Question will be how many of next year recruits will be borderline draft risks and how many, if any, of the major draft risks land at LSU.
I'll be curious to see if this is just how it is falling out or if maybe Jay consistently recruits every other class hard on top heavy guys and then every other year as a year to handpick a few top guys but look more on the fringe of the MLB draft risks to try and land more guys to campus.

I'm sure it just fell this way. As early as baseball players commit, I would think a fair share of top 2023 guys were already committed or heavily recruited before Jay signed with LSU. With NIL, a top program with top coaches, you have to go for the big guns every year. What is even better is you have the portal to backfill as well.
One thing I do like about this class is it fills our needs. SS and LHP, are two things that should be addressed in this class and it appears we have done that.
If we can land a strong pitching class in the portal. The 2024 team can be just as talented as 2023 if not more so. We are definitely losing some bats and Crews is impossible to replace but I think our pitching can improve a lot even with the loss of Skenes.

I agree with that. I think Jay is going after the top players and it is just a coincidence, but in the back of my mind I wouldn't be surprised if it is also planned to use some years to go top heavy and some years to plan on recruiting positional needs and depth over "best available" type recruiting.

It’s not grades…….I asked! That kid better figure things out. Also, he is still an LSU signee but unless he fixes his issues he will never make it as a Tiger! Culture and chemistry seem to be huge with CJJ and I don’t think he will be a fan.

Interesting. I’m not going to ask as this seems like something not to broadcast on a message board. Maybe when all is said and done you can elaborate.

at San Jacinto this year:
53.0 IP
57 H
78 K
20 BB
4.42 ERA
Honestly nothing earth shattering there but looks to be improved from when he was here. K numbers good probably because most of who he faces isnt used to seeing mid 90s with control

Ole Miss gave him the best offer and great plan for his development. Coach Bianco spent 2 hours with him on a zoom meeting and sold the program. No leverage involved.

And good for the kid. It looked like we were looking at him when Kelly was here, but maybe not as much recently. Either way, and this is no slight on him just a comment on the sheer number of players out there, we'll just go after the next kid.
I had only mentioned him in this thread because we were looking at him at some point and he's an in-state kid. I really thought he was trying to see what he could get on the football side so I was surprised at the commitment in that regard, but not surprised that another SEC school thought he was good enough to offer.

No slight taken, just wanted to put it out there. He had multiple offers and what many people don't know is that the schools put timelines on them to accept. Tough position to put 16 yr old kids in but its the nature of the current landscape. In state schools tend to move a little slower thinking they have leverage, which I understand. Ole Miss knew if they we going to pull him from LSU they had to act quick.

It's one of the things I don't like about the process. I understand it, but I don't like it.

New 2023 arm on the radar. Rhp Dillon Despain from Mira Costa, CA. Recently decommitted from Long Beach State. It looks like we’re pretty interested.
