Far better sources for scheduling than I am. I feel like they still have a few more weeks before scrimmages start, though.

I gotcha.
Although I hope not a "few". Opening night is only 4 weeks away.

I really don't think they start scrimmaging more than 2 weeks before opening night. But, we'll wait and see what others say.

about 30 minutes ago we picked up a commit from Sammy Kane. 2026 player out of California.
ETA: Listed at pretty much every position, I'll add him to the list later today. He's from Jesuit HS in or around Carmichael, CA.
ETAA: Kane is the 70th total commit we've gotten since Jay arrived. He's the 22nd since Josh Jordan arrived.

We got another commit today from Colt Christman out of Las Vegas. He’s a 2027.
I saw it on PG yesterday but couldn’t corroboration. I’ll add him to the list Monday.

I'd like to get some more guys for 2024.

Already up to 17 for 2024. Probably won’t be a ton more added. A couple though.

I'm glad we're getting them but some of these kids are so far out.

I believe Florida JUCO’s begin next weekend. We’re getting closer and closer.
Florida (and many other places) start this weekend. There is a tournament in Florida that has Chipola, College of Central Florida, and Florida Southwestern in it. There are a few other teams as well, but those three are absolutely loaded with prospects.
Of note for LSU is Derek Williams at Florida Southwestern. He's a 1B/OF from the St Louis metro area. He hit 25 HRs last year at Mineral Area College in Missouri and transferred to Mizzou but left after the fall semester. He went down to Florida where there is more competition in the JUCO ranks. We are evaluating him.

Long time lurker here, appreciate the discussion and information you guys bring to this thread. Sorry if this has been discussed, but I saw a recent interview from Michael Cauble with Jay Johnson and a question was posed about re-recruiting current guys on the team. Jay mentioned that he flew out to meet with one of our players this summer in the Cape Cod League because another team was recruiting him. Does anyone know who this was?
Here’s a list of players that player in the Cape:
- Jordan Thompson
- Bruce Collins
- Josh Pearson
- Garrett Edwards
- Hayden Travinski
- Paul Gervase
- Grant Taylor

I have no inside information but you'd have to imagine it was either Edwards or (more likely) Travkinski. Everyone else had lamented themselves as a starter or major piece of LSU for 2023.
I'd bet Travinski. One of the best power guys in the country who is going to have to really fight for playing time this year.

I also have zero inside info and the first player that came to mind was Travinski. And it wouldn't surprise me if it was a team that grabbed a couple other guys off our roster and is conspicuously absent from our schedule.

Imagine being that coach at the cape, recruiting LSU guys. Then all of a sudden Jay Johnson shows up. Time to pack it up and head back early.

Talk about a confident recruiter. Moscona asks how much NIL has to do with LSU baseball recruiting and Jay responds with something along the lines of: "You know, I'm glad you asked that. I've taken that sentiment as kind of an insult the last few months. I finished with the number one recruiting class in the country in 2007 at San Diego, and I'm certainly a better recruiter now than I was 16 years ago."
Unfortunately PG only has team rankings back to 2008, but he had 5 top 100 guys committed in the 2007 class.

I listened to it the other day. The Moscona on that interview is vastly different than his radio personality. I could listen to him do more interviews like that. And it shows he actually has some talent for it. The outsized radio BS is difficult to stand.
The part about Skenes recruitment was especially interesting to me, how Kaz basically set it up early in Skenes freshman year.

I wonder how much it was other team’s players recruiting vs coaches.

I'm listening to it now. Something I just heard that I think we were thinking differently about with the roster is that Bollman was not said to be a covid spot. Johnson named Dugas, Beloso, and Merrifield.
Unless the interview was done during that time that Bollman was not listed on the roster for whatever reason.

I feel like Grant Taylor fits the bill the most out of that group. Stud talent. Non Louisiana guy. Returning Floyd and Money. Bringing in Skenes, Hurd, Little, Shores, and Noot. That's the profile of a guy who transfers the majority of the time.
Also, Moscona is a really good interviewer all the time. It's definitely his strong point-- along with the ads and business stuff. Non-interview sports talk (or non-sports talk as it is half the time...) = no thanks.
