Found this site this weekend, it's a guy that scrapes data from baseball reference and some other sites and plugs it into formulas to create ratings. It's interesting to dig around on. Pitcher DIGS

Grant Taylor was the second rated pitcher this summer according to the DIGS+ metric. Defense Independent Game Score that is adjusted for park and league. Interestingly, former Catholic League pitcher Jake Cohen was number 1. He was at Pensacola St for a couple years and transferred to D2 West Florida for this season.

Here's another PG rankings update on the 2023 class. I did one originally in August last year, then updated in September. The numbers you see below are the new ranking now and what they came from in September of last year.

#7 from -> #6 C Blake Mitchell - TX
#21 from -> #17 LHP Cameron Johnson - MD
#78 from -> #82 OF Ashton Larson - KS
#100 from -> #119 LHP Jake Brown - LA
#102 from -> #112 SS Steven Milam - NM
#110 from -> #101 LHP Kade Anderson - LA
#111 from -> #102 3B Trenton Lape - LA
#138 from -> #126 RHP/SS MJ Seo - TX
#159 from -> #137 OF Derrick Mitchell - TX
#204 from -> #178 SS Austen Roellig - CA
#466 from -> #380 OF Dallas Dale II - FL
#501-1000 from -> #510-1000 OF Griffin Cooley - LA
#501-1000 from -> #410 SS Ryan Kucherak - AZ
#501-1000 from -> #453 SS Dylan Thompson - LA

Since September we lost this guy to aTm (probably because we had a huge number of top lefties between Johnson, Brown and Anderson already)...
#263 from -> #228 LHP Kaiden Wilson - MO

Looks like Kucherek and Thompson had pretty big 50+ rank falls. Dale from 380 to 466 a big fall too. No particularly big risers but Jake Brown was originally in the 160s back in August now a Top 100 player. Mitchell and Roellig both fell a decent bit (20+ spots) in this update from September.

Side note - Arkansas has 13 players committed in the Top 90 of PG rankings for 2023 class, only 1 of those 13 players is in the Top 29, so I bet they have a real shot to pull a ton of those guys. I think that might be one of the most insane pre-draft classes I've seen. We had 11 Top 90 players from last year and brought 6 of them in.

We have a good chance at getting all of the infielders to campus, which is good because it's an area we've needed to restock. And that most of them have at least some chance of being able to play shortstop in college is huge.

ETA: We won't really need any "instant impact" guys IMO. But I do think there are a few that could contribute as freshmen. I don't think we will hit the portal as hard after this season as we did last year, but we will still be looking for all the arms we can get I would imagine.

Is Seo projecting at SS or is he going with pitching? I know he was hitting mid 90s last summer on the gun which is pretty dang good for a junior.

I think he's drifting more toward pitcher, but I don't know for sure.

And about the portal, ideally yeah we take just a few top notch guys in the vein of Tanks, Skenes and Hurd and dont even need to look for guys like Nippolt. Although only 5 guys brought in from the portal this year isnt a ton.

Grant Taylor
Skenes
Ty Floyd
Hurd

I see as being the 4 pitchers we rotate in the Starting role on the weekend. And I agree I think Little is going to be used like Money in a long relief type role. Also possible Little gets the midweek start to get that starting experience for next season.

#88 Ty Floyd
#119 Blake Money
#128 Jordan Thompson

I think Money and Thompson should switch. But that is a very impressive list of players which should make everyone excited for the baseball season.

I think he is to some degree. I'd say anyone in the top 200 are, but some are more of a sweat than others.

Looks like California JUCO ball starts this weekend. I would guess that Fidel Ulloa will pitch at some point for San Joaquin Delta.

I love Taylor. I'm just not convinced he's ready and/or fits best as a starter. But that will all play out soon enough.

SS is Guidry's for the foreseeable future, even if it's not his this year. But, agree, glad to see some other SS prospects coming in. Not a SS, but I love Lape - he hits it hard.

I believe Florida JUCO’s begin next weekend. We’re getting closer and closer.

Also important because Guidry is a draft eligible SO (at least I think he is, I could be wrong). In case he takes over in 2023 and blows up with one year, more likely a 3 year guy though.

yea i think he will be a 3 year guy. I personally(only watched 3 games in person) thought at barbe last year Galt was better then him in the field though, fundamentally. Guidry has shite ton of potential though, it just oozes out of him. very very good overall athlete and I think in time he is going to be a stud SS.

I would agree with that. I saw them in person a few times as well. Galt has amazing hands. I do wonder if his bat will translate to big time college baseball.

DRock, any idea or word on when Jay is beginning the open scrimmages for the spring?

I'm itching to get out to the park and thought with us being only 4 weeks out that they might would start up this weekend, but haven't seen anything.

I'm trying to remember back to last year, I seem to vaguely recall me not going to a lot of spring scrimmages, but I don't know if that is just because of my schedule or that he prefers not to open up a lot of the spring like he does in the fall.
