I think pitcher or DH. He won’t play much in the field at all

I’ll be completely shocked if he plays the field any. So far this fall (and I’ve been to every scrimmage but 1) he has yet to do anything other than pitch and hit. Haven’t even noticed him in fielding drills either.

My expectation is for him to pitch, I’m assuming Friday nights, and then DH the rest of the weekend. Maybe they don’t have him bat in midweeks to try and preserve him some.

Yea or if Jared Jones hits or Jobert has a good matchup, he doesn’t have to be forced into the lineup. But I do expect him to DH some

New S&C coach is Derek Groomer, previously at UAB.

ETA: Looks like he was at Arkansas before as well.

Jordan Thompson will be your SS and a battle for 2B
Dugas had eye surgery which caused him to miss about three weeks of fall
Shores most ready to help from fr pitching class, is high on Herring as well from the left side

Roy? Holdover from previous staff
Probably Jay wanted his own guy.
LSU did seem to have an inordinate amount of injuries during his tenure
Strength coach positions are evolving and definitely changing from the past

He said we may even see games where they use 2-3 players at 2B over the course of the game, playing matchups and situations. Didn't even completely rule out Jobert and Kling there. He said he wants guys to think of themselves as baseball players, and not some specific position that pigeon holes them for opportunities.

With regards to freshman position players, he named Jones first. Really likes him at the plate. Neal and Kling will play. Mentioned Guidry's talent, too.

When he mentioned Jones his face kind of lit up a little bit and talked about how he isn't only a big physical strong guy. Says he can really hit as well with that. Will be exciting to see him compete for DH at bats. Possibly be a guy they can put at 1B a few games to get Morgan a little OF PT if they choose to.

Yep. Jones is obviously not Tommy White, but he's talked about them similarly in the sense that they have really big power but are also just really good all around hitters.

ETA: He also sounds really, really excited about Tre. He mentions Crews and Morgan in the same breath from a talent and production standpoint and leadership standpoint. I hated that Tre was hobbled all last year - he fought his butt off, but we would've been a different team with a healthy Tre Morgan.

And Kling/Neal/Jones are going to be very hard to keep out of the lineup. Any typical year and we would be ecstatic with one.

From what I was told both Roy and Cory left to go in private businesses. Both was their decisions. Basically it was for their families from my understanding. 2 big losses

Agreed. Have to pick and choose what threads to click on. Can't even post fall baseball stats without the "Downvote, it's football season. WGAF about baseball" comment.

The LSU baseball recruiting thread will have to be renamed the "LSU Baseball Recruiting and Educated Baseball Conversation Thread".
