Gio just hit the portal so there’s an open spot

Opens one of those 5th year spots. Doesn’t really open a playing time spot though.

Definitely. And more good players with experience is better than fewer.

If we go outfield, I hope they're RHH. I know we have Crews coming back and maybe Kling coming in, but we're otherwise LH heavy out there. Jay loves him some LHH, but I hope he gives himself some RH options.

I know crews will be in center, and pearson will be in one of the corners. So the other outfield spot is open IMO. Stevenson obviously would be in contention.

If dugas comes back, sounds like it may be infield.

I think Dugas might play 3rd if he comes back.

Alot of options with Pearson and Dugas having the ability to play infield. It will depend on who we bring in as to how they handle the positions. Kling may also force somebody to the infield. I still think you have to pay a little more attention to defense next year and not just stick people places for their bats, unless you truly build a deep, shutdown pitching staff.

Dugas on the inf would be a disaster

LF or DH but I suspect Kling will be a long look in the OF if he can hit college pitching right away

I was gonna watch the Hi Toms game in the Coastal Plain League, but Haddad wasn't in the lineup. He's hitting .483 with 11 Ks in 29 ABs. 5 walks, 2 HBPs. 1.169 OPS, 586 SLG, 583 OBP. He's also stolen 2 bags.

I've said it numerous times on here but he's good. Best hitter in the Catholic league before coming to LSU (I liked a few other guys more than him but Haddad had better stats). Had a rough start in scrimmages here but I think he'll be a solid player somewhere, if not here. Very versatile athlete, too. Not a star by any means, but somebody to keep an eye on.

Also, a few guys with some nice stats in that league in the early going.

Anybody worth paying attention to, Project?

He has a big strike out problem that won’t play in the SEC. When I tracked off-season scrimmages, he K’d almost 40% of the time. Now in the coastal plains league, 30%.

So how will he compensate, and what type of competition will it be against ?

Plus defender? major power ? Super utility ?

Sun belt? Southland? NAIA?

Is there any coach JJ or JK following Skenes from Air Force!
Guy is a weekend pitcher for sure! Hope we get him!

I think the strikeout rate will continue to drop. He's not a big power guy, so I believe that's been a product of waiting too long in the count. Jay's approach can be tough for young hitters - Jay doesn't want guys watching center cut on 0-0 just to work the pitch count, he wants them to stay away from a pitcher's pitch on 0-0. That's not easy for a young, immature hitter to decipher against SEC arms. Even Pearson started slow in his limited chances early.

Super utility guy. I hate to make the comparison, but he could be a Bianco type of guy from a defensive versatility perspective.

Better than NAIA and D2. We've seen it before, but he may be a guy that steps over to a Delgado, rakes, then makes a jump somewhere. I'd say he might even stick here, but it's gonna be so damn crowded.

ETA: I think he could be a power guy. He's not a little dude. Build is similar to Crews, just obviously not as much twitch (who does).
