They should get opportunities to prove themselves in the fall and early spring. I just don't think they will be able to do anything to take a spot from any of the other guys. Especially if both Romero and Guidry make it to campus. If they make it to campus they are much more talented and ahead of both of them by far as soon as they take their first step on campus. Not a knock on Safford and Holt but Romero and Guidry are just really talented ball players.

plus the easy transition is to move Thompson to second, which hurts their chances.

Unfortunately guys like Holt and Safford would need to hit for incredible averages to play.

I'd have Thompson play 3B all summer if Romero and/or Guidry make it to campus. He won't have to think as much there, and he has some history there.

It doesn't need to be spectacular just consistently good. Give me Thompson's bat and Hal Huges glove and I'm good.

Holt to me looked very similar to Cranford in the fall but with maybe a touch more power. Safford has some limitations with glove. It's going to be difficult for both of them guys.

I actually thought the name Taiga was an unique way of spelling Tiger. It would be cool to have a Japanese player. Seo in 2023 is Korean. Plus the Canadian pitcher in the 2022 class would give some international flavor to the team.

I'm going to enjoy this year but 2023 has me really excited. We might lose a little fire power in Doughty and Berry but I see a lot of improvement potential. We should have options at Catcher and infield. I think we will have 3 new starting pitchers and maybe closer as well. It should be a very talented team.

I agree that it will be exciting, but I feel like that every season. Just have to remind yourself even though these guys are really good coming out of high school they are still going to be young and have to transition into playing college baseball. Especially SEC baseball. So while I get excited every year, I also make sure to remember that come time for the season.

I actually thought Thompson looked much more comfortable at 2B the few games Doughty moved to short. I wouldn't mind having Thompson at 2nd with Guidry and Merrifield battling for 3B next season. IF Thompson is struggling bad you have Guidry or Merrifield move over to 2B. Will have a few players that will be able to move around to all 3 IF positions next season. Will be about finding the right combination. Little bit like this year. Though Thompson is still playing defense without confidence, I still feel the combination that is playing is the best option LSU has at the moment.

I think people also forget how difficult it is to develop players in baseball. We’ve seen so many guys show promise as freshman and never reach the same level of play through their career.

Not a bad idea at all. One of the scouting reports I mentioned in a previous post stated that at the moment, Guidry's best tool is his glove while Romero's is his bat. Being how highly regarded Romero is, you would think it would still be an upgrade defensively over this year.

Yea Holt came in extremely raw. Had trouble with routine plays...it's nothing against those two but if LSU is relying on them to be starters then you wonder if LSU truly has a championship caliber lineup.

It's actually not just the HS guys. You have some current players like Simon, Leto and Priester. You have the portal. You have 4 JUCO pitchers that can impact. Pitching is a place where HS players can impact and I expect some freshmen arms to do that. If Romero, Guidry, Neal or Kling can impact right away that would great but I'm not necessarily counting on that. It's the pitching in 2023 that have my expectations up and as Project mentioned we probably aren't over adding experienced pieces.

The pieces are definitely being put in place to be excited. Pitching and defense should improve next season and the lineup will be just fine.
May, June and July are my favorite months of the year being a college baseball fan. College baseball season coming to an end with teams fighting to be in the postseason/regional hosts/super regional hosts. Then you have postseason play. Then you have the draft and can start making more speculation of who will make it to campus and what the roster will shape up to look like going into the fall.

I'm excited about Zeb Ruddell. Every time I get on twitter I see him hitting a tank. We will have tons of options in the OF, might be the most talented the group has been as a whole in a while.
Crews
pearson
Stevenson
Drost
Kling
Ruddell
Paul (heard good things about his glove)

Will become very difficult to keep Pearson out of the lineup. Dynamic hitter! Stevenson has the potential to become a great TIGER!

Dont forget Jobert as well. Wouldn't be terribly shocked if we need to put him in a corner to make room for a bat like Jared Jones or Ethan Frey coming in

I'm not saying they won't contribute as freshmen, but both guys fall into a couple categories of players that take a little longer to adjust/develop.
Catchers - because the non-hitting part of their job is so onerous it takes their bats a little longer.
Tall Guys - They have longer levers so getting used to higher velo can take a little longer.
Those are the type of guys you want to have patience with, because by year 3 they could be absolute monsters. Even if it doesn't seem that way right away.

Havent heard anything in awhile, but are we expecting Priester to be here and contribute going forward? I know it was said he wasnt super high on going the college route....and now redshirting apparently on top of that.
Reason I ask is that if so, one of Jones or Frey will be put at 1st I think
