Project, did LSU recruit Silas Ardoin (UT catcher out of Moss Bluff)? He's been an impact player on defense since stepping foot on their campus and is starting to figure it out offensively this year.
Currently watching OU / UT and his HR is only run of game thus far in 7th and he had 0 errors all of last year.
I've always wondered since I saw him in person at Minute Maid in '20 Shriners Classic.

We had three catchers committed by the time he decommitted from McNeese.
Catcher evaluation was not a particularly strong aspect of Nolan Cain’s tenure as recruiting coordinator.

I knew Milazzo presented a conflict of interests, but din't realize there were two more at the time.

Hayden Travinski and Ray Torres. Torres went JUCO and signed with the Nats as a UDFA after the shortened 2020 season.

Someone mentioned the Catholic League and Brother Martin. Has anyone watched Reece Roussel play at Brother Martin as a freshman? Was wondering how he has developed since the Little League World Series fame.
He doesn't play much on varsity, but is supposed to be really good. The freshman from the Little League team that plays the most for BM varsity is the catcher, Prather. They also play Darrah and Roussell some. I think BM has a few more from that team. They all project but they're just 9th graders.

The incoming outfield class is pretty interesting. I think it addresses some positional needs because it includes three guys that can play CF, and we should get at least one of them to campus.
Justin Crawford - Rated by all 8 publications I track, with an average of 42.4. Considering a couple of those publications only have 30 guys rated, at least a few people consider him to be a first round pick. I'm considering him a draft casualty at this poin t. Possibly the only guy in the class that I'm chalking up as an absolute loss at this point.
Paxton Kling - Another guy that can play CF, has good speed, and a plus plus bat. I would normally consider him a big time draft risk, but shortly after he re-committed to the current staff (he originally committed to the previous one), Charles Hannagriff mentioned on his podcast that there were rumblings of Kling telling teams not to draft him. Things can chnage, so I'm not ready to say he's definitely coming to campus, but that makes me feel pretty good about it.
Zeb Ruddell - Corner OF guy with a good bat and really good power potential. Lower level draft risk, he's on the radar but probably not likely to get an offer worth taking. I don't know if he's an instant impact guy like Kling, could be but he's a future contributor.
Mic Paul - Speedy CF prospect and LHH. Also has a pitching background, but I don't think he will pitch here. He's the type of guy we weren't recruiting enough of in recent years. A guy that may not be ready right away, but can ease the blow of losing the top guys to the draft. It's hard to get much info on him, he plays in Utah, he's not talked about too much as it relates to the draft. But he's a true CF and we need that.
Overall, I'd say the biggest likelihood is that we get 3/4 to campus. The second most likely scenario is 2/4. With recent classes having the OF already stocked with young guys, I don't think we need to address this position further through the portal unless there is unexpected attrition. Whether we get 2 or 3 of these guys, I think we're done recruiting OF for 2022.

Guys like Crawford and Toman will be interesting. Crawford’s family should be set enough to make the decision more about whether he wants to get his pro career started or attend school, rather than the financial implications of signing. Toman coming from a family that has a career college coach should give him about as informed of an opinion as anyone in the country.
You never know in these situations. Sometimes the things you think that will work in your favor could actually be working against you.

After seeing the early successes of guys like Fernando Tatis Jr, Vlad Jr, Bo Bichette, etc, bloodlines are becoming a valued part of the equation.
They aren't the whole story, but they give something more to bet on as a front office. Crawford and Jackson Holliday (Matt's son) are both skyrocketing up the charts. They were both undersized guys early in their careers but now they're filling out, keeping their skills high, and flashing the type of potential you'd expect from the son of a major leaguer.
Speaking of Holliday, his dad was a college coach and he was even a two sport commit to Oklahoma State when he signed with the Rockies out of high school. I cited him earlier in the thread as an example of why it's not a foregone conclusion that Toman plays in college. Same with Brett Anderson (his dad is the pitching coach at Tenn), MJ Melendez (Mervyl is the HC at FIU). I think there are others but they're not coming to me at the moment. You also have Brooks Lee at Cal Poly who was a big draft prospect out of HS and is top end of round 1 candidate now, but he's playing for his dad there. That would be like Toman going to MTSU.

Coach Johnson made a very interesting comment about Mic Paul when he was discussing the class. He said he was one of the best CF he has seen in the last few years. I might be a little off in the wording but he was obviously high on at least his defensive abilities.

Former RHP commit Wyatt Wiatrek committed to McLennan CC in Waco, TX. Really good JUCO program that routinely has guys bouncing back from D1 schools and committing to D1 schools. They send a decent amount of guys to the pros as well.

Do we get one to campus is the question.

Do we get one what? You responded to a post about catchers in a class from 3 years ago.

Sorry I misread the posts, I thought it was discussing some of the Catchers from this class and just emphasizing that Cain missed on several Catchers while the recruiting Coordinator.

I thought you may be wondering about this year's catchers, that's why I asked to clarify.
Here is my post about the current class of catchers: LINK
I only have RHPs left to do but I'm probably going to split it between JUCO and HS guys to cut down on the number of players in each post.

Thank you, I would really hope we get both Frey and Jones to campus. Give them both a year to develop while Milazzo and Travinski play their last year behind the plate for us.

Jake Brown from sulphur threw a no hitter yesterday and hit a home run against Lafayette. Struck out 14

yea the 9th grade class in general is really strong in NOLA, Laffy and LC area. the 13 year old 7th grade class is real strong too in those areas. I know it kind of sounds absurd talking about 7th graders but nature of the beast now.
The jordin Griffin kid that will be going to barbe is an absolute stud

Absolutely. I mentioned a few posts ago how the talent in the state is really young. I've been seeing it with my own eyes - don't get me wrong, they have some good older kids, but the younger kids are advanced already. It will always be weird to me seeing kids rated at such a young age, before they even step foot in a varsity game. But, I'm just starting to see how these kids are definitely projectable. The Darrah kid is a good example for me, and I'm only using him because I've seen him. He's a freshman and doesn't play every pitch at BM on varsity yet. But, he's 6'0-6'1, not intimidated in the least, plate discipline against 87-88 upperclassmen, walks the walk as a freshman on the varsity field when he's out there.
ETA: And, I really don't even follow ratings. Darrah might not even be rated.

Project do you know anything about that Darrah kid ?
Posted on 4/6/22 at 8:49 pm to LesnarF5
I don’t know anything more than what I learned from DRock’s post about him.
In general I’d say he has to be pretty good to get playing time as a freshman at a 5A school.
