I agree, but I don’t think Dugas is bad enough defensively to write him off. Jay is going to make his money trying to figure out how he needs to situate all these guys to maximize his lineup. It’s a very good problem to have.

Assuming the draft is as good as we think it will be

Guidry is arguably the most crucial piece to this recruiting class

I’m curious why? I can see this being true if we lose Pineda and his ability matches his rankings, but as I said before, his scouting reports seem to paint a picture that’s he’s a good bit more projectable than polished right now. I can see Neal and a starting pitcher being more crucial now.

The infield pretty much clears out after next year. He could also end up being a piece on the mound now or later. You’re not just recruiting for immediate impact. You’re building a program. And, he’s the #1 player in LA.

I guess I’d say he’s crucial, maybe not most crucial, but maybe.

LSU hasn’t hit on a SS since Josh Smith in the 16 class. You lost out on Turang in 18, you lost out on Hinds and Cairo in 19, Doughty was the hitter you dreamed of but had to play 2B and 3B. Thompson will be a junior next year. No true SS from last years class. This years class will lose Romero.

Pineda and Young won’t be here in 2024…they need a cornerstone from this class at the position.

My comment is not in regards to immediate playing time it’s over the next 3 years.

He’s a DES tho, so even then it could only be a 2 year thing.

You almost always end up needing freshmen to contribute. You rarely get through a year without injuries, slumps, etc. Guidry will likely be the next man up even if Young, Pineda, and Thompson start. And, Guidry may be needed for innings on the bump or in the OF or whatever. He’s a big piece in year 1.

In year 2, he’s a starter somewhere and/or gets more innings on the mound.

Just read another Keith Law piece about prospects outside his top 100. He thinks Shores makes it to campus.

I have no idea how. He was always one I thought was one of the more singable high schoolers but that’s welcoming news if so.

He doesn’t think the fastball or control is good enough to get him drafted where he would want.

This is gaining some steam. I hadn't really given it a second thought over the last 2 months. Certainly have dismissed the idea on the air. Shores would be a super encouraging add.

Its been trending that way with him. A rumor was that his number was north of 2 mil. If so, feels like we got ourselves a good one coming in

I think Bucknam will tell us how much scouts trust the competition in the Draft League. It’s definitely a step up from last year, they had some good players in it. I don’t think he had a spring season in Canada but was lights out in the draft league against much older competition.

I think the Blue Jays took him after the 10th last year so they were soft capped at $125k and hoping for a hometown discount. I don’t think he’s done anything to drop his stock and may now be more visible than last year. I could see him getting a $300k offer. (My own amateur opinion)

But the industry expects him to sign so I don’t feel like he’s coming here.

Project:

Are you hearing anything about Noot that might be good news for LSU?

Not hearing anything either way, but it’s encouraging that he’s on campus and got his glove the other day.

Both Noot and Shores throw easy gas already. Wes would have a damn field day.

ETA: Honestly think both could be guys that flirted with 100. Noot has so much whip, and Shores is such a big frame.
