I'd be curious to know these teams recruiting pitch to Skenes and what he thinks about the role he wants on a team. I'm probably in the minority, but I don't think Skenes will be able to catch and pitch like he has been doing. Maybe catch 1 game a week and pitch 1 game a week is what I would do with him. Not sure if he has a priority 1 way or the other if he would have to choose. I just think it wouldn't be a good idea with arm fatigue catching and pitching and also the heat he would have to deal with in the south. Can play him at 1B also, but we already have a logjam there. So if he is adamant about playing a position and pitching and MSU has room for that and is emptying the bank on him, idk if we will be able to win him over.

This is what I was saying the other day when I asked what Johnson’s philosophy on 2 way guys are. Honestly, just letting him pitch and DH on the days he’s not pitching is probably the easiest and most stable thing to do. Things get too chaotic when you remove the DH for your pitcher or you have to swap guys in and out the lineup depending on who’s on the mound.

Agreed, but that is if Tommy White was promised a position. If not then you will have him at DH and Skenes will be left out. Unless White shows he can handle 3B. So many moving parts to what can happen and what can make the best lineup day in and day out. Just wonder how much he values playing the field and batting to come here and have to compete for a spot at C/1B/DH.

You wonder how many of these kids are getting in the portal with the intentions on leaving. I don't understand why a guy like him would leave Stanford. Could just be using it as a leverage point with draft then if he doesn't get the money then go right back to Stanford. Unless it is like Thatcher Hurd and he wants to play in the SEC.

Garrett Edwards has had a decent start in the Cape

7.2 IP
3.52 ERA
10 H
4 SO
1 BB

the walk number is big. Need him to get back to throwing strikes. They're hitting him pretty good but he just needs to find his control again.

McGwire Holbrook to Florida State. He was kind of a catcher but mostly a DH, not sure how hard we pursued.

I would like to see him get it together. Coming in, he was a 2-sport guy so I think it served him well to focus on baseball only. Last year, he started the season with an injury. Hopefully it all starts to come together. He needs to add some good weight to his build.

I don't think a lot of people realize this also applied to Ty Floyd. He was a basketball/baseball guy in high school, as well as a two way player in baseball. His athleticism, combined with a relative lack of baseball reps (compared to peers) are why scouts have always been high on him.

Yup. He was just a thrower coming in. He's evolved closer to what a pitcher looks like but I think Wes Johnson could turn him into something really special.

Good info. I knew Edwards but didn't realize Floyd also. Would explain the undeveloped offspeed. He didn't play baseball year round enough to work on it and was probably just blowing people away with the fastball in high school and never needed it.

Agreed. Mid-90's fastball with a sharp breaking ball. If he can develop that changeup, he will be a top 5 round pick. He showed flashes towards the end last year. Hoping he can keep that confidence going.

Floyd has a very high ceiling indeed.

WJ could end up making him a rich man.

Could be leverage. Coupd be he has enticing nil money being offered by sec schools. Or could be he wants to go where people watch and show up to the games.

Right. In the Thatcher Hurd interview on Mikey's show that was one thing he made clear. He transferred to play in the SEC in front of bigger crowds with better competition.

On D1 podcast from yesterday or day before they had a similar conversation with Kyle Peterson. Peterson was saying the SEC saying "it just means more" gets people angry but it is true. That is where all the crowds are, the money, the facilities, etc.

With Jay’s connections on the west coast, we should kill it with high profile transfers that want to come to the SEC after a year or two

Aiden Moffett is retweeting scouting reports that show him as a potential 3rd-6th round pick.

He's creeping into that 50/50 category for me.

Interesting. I wasn’t really worried about losing him since he isn’t showing up on many big boards. Isn’t his mom in some sort of educational field too?
