Maize & Blue Review can confirm reports that Michigan baseball players Willie Weiss, Riley Bertram, Brandon Lawrence, and Jaylen Jones joined Jimmy Obertop in the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.

If we're looking for a catcher, Jimmy Obertop would be a decent option. He's another St Louis kid, I would guess he knows Christian Little, but he's a little older and I don't know if they played for the same summer program.

he struck out 84 times this year...woof lol

Wasn’t he the QB at parkway a few years ago?

I think the Larry kid from UNO should get a look.

I just remember him being from St Louis and starting as a freshman at Michigan coming off their Omaha run and him getting ejected from a game on the MLB Network.

ETA: Here's him getting tossed: LINK

Umpires like that need to go kick rocks.

I was expecting the portal to be a frenzy but instead it has been a really slow pace, nationwide. I realize baseball doesn't have the resources like football, to scout, evaluate and set up visits. I was wondering if you guys think it will stay like this, slow and steady or will it pick up after some keys dates like the draft?

Was hoping to see Amani Larry enter portal and hope LSU goes after him.

Larry is a good player. I still find him kinda raw, though. I would not hesitate to bring him in if we're looking at Dugas and/or Pearson to play infield, though. Larry is a far superior defender than what those 2 would be on the infield. Ideally, you get Larry to hold out until you see about Denton and Romero (draft wise), then pull the trigger if you miss on both.

What makes him raw.
Cause I look at his body of work over the last 3 stops and one thing jumps at me immediately

No one that walks more than they K is really “raw”. So what exactly is raw code word for
My friend is an area scout for LAD & says he is on draft radar

Hitting wise, he gets tied up a whole lot. He's good enough to still get the barrel to the ball in alot of instances, but he just kind of back shoulders it there.
He's great defensively, but it's not super fundamental.
Hand eye coordination and athleticism is off the charts, offense and defense, but none of it is orthodox.

Sounds to me like it's approach or technique. Nothing CJJ can't tweek with him to improve.

What has you gung ho on Denton? For the record, I like him and would definitely welcome the addition but I don’t think he’s a can’t miss add. Just his glove and experience? I’m just curious.

Jay would do well with Larry.

Defense and experience for Denton, yes. You put him aside Pineda and you have a 2-way left side of the infield with experience. Denton has a ton of potential at the plate, too. And, just for the Thompson fans, fine, he may win SS if he improves defensively, then you have Denton, Thompson, Pineda, and Morgan…all 2 way infielders with experience.

Everyone can improve but I’m not sure the guy who just hit .370/.477/.578 and walks more than he K’s is all that raw

Pineda was a very good get! I want some starting pitchers next.
