I'm getting Old. One of the 2024 Commits went to Middle School with my son. I've spent many a night on a bleacher somewhere watching him and my kid play some kind of ball together.

Any local Catholic league kids on JJ's radar? I haven't been overly impressed with the talent level there. Some solid baseball players/teams but lacking top end talent. Just interested in what JJ may see once he gets his paws on it.

Ruckert is a guy who were after that attends catholic high already have Grant Breaux on Board

Also LSU picked up a commitment from 2024 3B/RHP Matthew champion seems like a highly touted prospect

I’ll add him tomorrow. At the Cardinals game right now. But yeah, he’s a big pick up.

I’ll put a list of Catholic league kids together tomorrow

ETA: I'm also throwing any St Pauls kids on there as well

Gavin Nix - 2025 - Rummel
Dylan Gilbert - 2024 - John Curtis
Cody Kropp - 2025 - Brother Martin
Cooper Winchester - 2024 - St Pauls

I think there are some other ones specifically at Brother Martin, but that's all I could tell from scanning my list.

I'm trying to figure out when group practice starts, Johnson mentioned he's trying to push it back as far as he can.

I thought it was scheduled to start next Friday. I was hoping that's the case because it would mean I'd have an opportunity to go watch on Sunday possibly.

Oct 8th is when fall practice begins
I don't know if he's gonna open practice and scrimmages like previous staff did except for possibly to coaches committee members at times
There will be two scrimmages at Box and the Purple Gold World Series in November that all will be open to public

I assume Cooper is the son of Jeff Winchester? Wasn't he committed to LSU but drafted high and signed?

Intersquad Scrimmages will be open just not the practice part per coach
Tutko to send schedule out weekly
Big recruit visiting this weekend from Pennsylvania must be Kling
Several visits lined up for auburn and fla game per coach
Champion was in last couple of days and he all but confirmed that commit recruited as pitcher but can also hit
Will have dinner with nolas once season ends and sat with past players in suite at last football game

He explained how they use analytics using their CWS game against Kumar Rocker even though they lost the game - they broke down Rocker's strikeouts for the year and noted that 10 of the 100+ were on fastballs and the rest were on his slider or other pitches. The key was to lay off the slider and make him throw that for a strike. He had 30 plus pitches in first and didn't make it out of fifth. Plate discipline was very high on his priority and biggest way to get in his doghouse.

Love hearing this. Hopefully their scrimmages will be around the same time as in the past. I enjoy getting off work downtown and heading down river road to take in some during the weeks. Do you know if Jamie will be tweeting out the schedule each week like Micah used to do?

That’s awesome to hear. Good sign that he is embracing the traditions of this great and historic program. Has he mentioned if he has met or been able to talk with Bregman any?

Overall, thanks for the info. Look forward to hearing more from you moving forward.

Yes. Cooper is Jeff's son. Jeff's siblings were also athletes. Jeff committed to LSU but instead played several years in the minors. He's still a catching guru - and could definitely swing it in his day, so I'm sure he has that covered from a coaching perspective, too. It looks like Cooper may end up a bit taller than Jeff.

Crazy but impressive how far out they project kids these days. I follow the Catholic League a good bit, and barely even knew about these kids.

I know Bryce Gauthier from BM visited LSU, but I think he was just a tag along with Mmhat who is BM's QB. Mmhat would just be a walk on for footbaall, I'm sure. Roussell and Laiche were good players for BM last year but I didn't see LSU baseball in them. I don't know what I know anymore, though.
