Yea it’ll be either or. I think we still have a good idea the general people who are going to leave vs not.
Cabrera and Henry are the only two sure bets that I see. In a full draft I think Garza would’ve been gone but He definitely won’t get taken in the top 5 rounds and is questionable for the top 10.
Beck is something of a question mark. He’ll be welcome back under the new ruling but what kind of scholarship compensation would he get? Would it be worth it to him to pay most of his own way for another year?
George is sort of the same. Is playing one more year of baseball worth the price?
Will Hughes return? Will he hang them up/transfer?
There’s a lot of questions right now and not many roster spots up for grabs.

Beck and George have both expressed the want to come back.
I think Hughes will get caught up in the numbers...I need to come up with a list.

There are 120 players, 58 grad transfers in the portal already. This is going to chaos.

Agreed. I think this heavily benefits some mid majors who may get some fringe starters/backups at P5 schools if given a one time transfer with no restrictions.
Not sure we’re see major shuffling between major programs.

Based on the D1Baseball transfer tracker, Chase Costello is in the portal. First LSU player in. There are over 200 players in it now.
And I saw on there that the grad transfer we were recruiting at one point, Jake McDonald from Texas Tech originally, is going to Tulane.
ETA: Costello no longer listed as being in the portal on D1Baseball.

Idk if it would make sense to, but any knowledge of LSU recruiting any different grad transfers?
Posted on 4/6/20 at 7:12 pm to epicpoe
I’d be surprised if we were given our already tight roster situation. And knowing they would count against the 11.7, they would have to be special enough to give up on an incoming freshman for one year of play. Which typically isn’t a level of talent available on the grad transfer market.

Transfer season is up and running, obviously, and we're starting to see a little bit of movement on 2020 recruits flipping to JUCOs.
In the last few days Wabash Valley JC in Illinois (quickly becoming a talent hotbed) picked up a transfer from Coastal Carolina (Kyle Westfall), a former Florida commit (Catcher Kishon Frett), and a former Miami commit (SS Bryan Muniz).
There is going to be a glut of talent at some of these JUCO powerhouses. It will filter down to some of the others as well, but there are some JUCOs that are kind of the biggest fish in their pond and they will just look like juggernauts. Wabash Valley is one of them.
In Texas and Florida, everyone is going to be good. But there are only like 2 good JCs in Illinois. Wabash Valley gets players from all over the country and John A Logan gets players from Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky primarily.

His brother is a coach at morehead state in Kentucky. That could be a landing spot if he does leave.

Feel like a few Texas schools that are going to cash in are Texas State and TAMUCC (the girlfriend's alma mater that's respectable and I've seen a few times).
As far as Beck and George, I hope Beck returns given his value for depth in the bullpen. I'm indifferent about George.

Tamucc has one of my favorite players that I’ve been following since he played with some LSU guys on the Danville Dans, Itchy Burts. He’s a good player and a great name.

ProjectP...
1. What's your thoughts on guys like B. Doughty and E. Walker hanging em up?
2. What do you think the odds of M. Hampton Jr. sticking to football only from here on out?
3. Besides D. Cabrera and C. Henry, do you see D. Fontenot or anyone else getting drafted? (Depending on how many rounds the draft ends up being.)

The only question I feel comfortable answering is the last one. Fontenot has an outside shot, Labas is a possibility. If it goes ten rounds I could see those two and possibly Garza being drafted.

Labas? That’s surprising to me. I never would’ve guessed he was a top 10 round guy with his limited body of work. My knowledge in draft prospects is admittedly very lacking though.
Btw this has nothing to do with this thread but I was talking to a buddy and we were both drawing a blank on a name.
Who was the defensive minded shortstop who came in either Bregmans last year or the year after he left. Everyone kind of thought he was the heir apparent at SS but it never worked out and he transferred.
Byrd keeps popping into my head. Is that right?

Trey Dawson, transferred to chipola then Kentucky

Overly impressed by your baseball knowledge. Got to see Itchy play UT in 2018 at Whataburger and last season when I drove the gf alumnus to TX State to see them. They had a few pretty good OFs too. Geaux 'Ders.
I'm an umpire in CenTex and got to ump Lake Travis HS behind dish in 2017 and in 2018 behind dish. Been umpiring since freshman year of college in 2003 and seeing Beatty's plate approach as a SO was unreal. Was pretty impressive seeing Beatty and Lewis together on same team in addition to rest of team. Chatted up LSU with Lewis in 2017 game given he was already committed. Was able to make it to the Dell Diamond to watch final 5 innings of state championship game between LTHS and Southlake Carroll after umpiring a college showcase tourney that entire day.
Haven't visited this board in very long time and took quarantine to do it, but glad I've made a return.

A couple juco guys we were looking at committed elsewhere within the past couple days. Adam Tulloch was a d2 bounce back, lhp in the upper 90s. I don’t know how he’s we were recruiting him lately. He committed to West Virginia.
Roberto Pena was a Florida bounce back that we recently got on, he committed to south Florida. 3b/1b/DH guy.
