Northwest Florida State started their season about 15 minutes ago. LSU commit Beck Way is the starter in their first game. I will keep track of his game and how he does, but I felt compelled to post about it already since he had 7 pitch first inning with 2 strikeouts.
ETA: Way went 4 innings while only throwing 43 pitches. He allowed two hits, no walks, no runs. He got into a trouble spot in one inning with the back to back hits with one out. He struck out the last two guys that inning with runners on 1st and 3rd.
4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 7 K

Beck Way will be getting the start for Northwest Florida State in about 30 minutes against San Jacinto. San Jac is a powerhouse that has several former D1 players and commits. Way will face off against former Tennessee commit and current Kentucky commit Mitchell Parker. Also on the San Jac roster are former LSU commits Ray Torres and Jake Hymel. I will update how his outing went this weekend or Monday.

Project, do you see any of the infielders for 2020 competing for starting SS next year?
Posted on 2/16/20 at 3:00 pm to N2daWild
Jordan Thompson. And current freshman Collier Cranford once his arm is 100%.

I see that Way apparently has upper 90s velo and, according to your post, is really efficient. Do you know the likelihood of him making it to campus?

He's highly thought of for the draft. It's considered a very deep draft, though. With him not really walking anyone, I could see this turning into another Nate Pearson situation and we don't get him. But we won't know more until closer to June.
One of the reasons he shot up the draft boards this early is because JUCO baseball was the only scoutable baseball happening for a couple weeks. As the D1 and high school seasons progress, more guys will catch up to him in terms of hype.

There is a grad transfer pitcher that we are in on that might be on an official visit to us right now. I can't tell if he is or not. His name is Jake McDonald and he pitched at Texas Tech previously. He will have 2 years of eligibility wherever he ends up. He's been injured over his career but still throws gas.

May be time for a new recruiting coordinator
Not sure if offering 8th graders and freshmen is way too early in the process because at that point it's hard to determine their MLB draft potential.
Plus they end up with some players that have no business being on this roster.
To me if you have to cut a player or process a player that's a missed talent evaluation. Every year they have players that leave before the season even starts. How were players like that even offered?

Didn’t he transfer to UL recently or something? I saw that when I looked him up.

Maybe so, I've been trying to find more info on him.

In case you didn’t see this, here is a link to a Lafayette news outlet that says he transferred, but now I see on his Twitter that he says he’s entered the transfer portal, so I don’t know.

Oh yeah, I do remember seeing that a while back. I don't know if he's for sure headed there (for baseball) but I think that tells me he's not visiting us right now. His twitter profile says he lives in Louisiana, but he posted that he got one plane for his OV wherever he is.
So I take that to mean he's visiting somewhere else right now.
Thank you for posting and helping me figure that out.

Project, I haven’t been able to follow the class this year. Who are the big ( top 3 round) draft risks?
Posted on 3/1/20 at 4:35 pm to bugafor6
Romo and Crews are the biggest position player risks. There are a lot of pitcher risks, Way probably being the biggest.
Posted on 3/1/20 at 10:32 pm to ProjectP2294
Drost a risk as well. Morgan had TJ recently.

This team needs some juco position players in this class or next year may be worse offensively.
You lose Cabrera and Garza with no adequate replacements on roster and the incoming guys are:
Romo - C not a position of need with Milazo and will likely go pro
Thompson
Milligan
Crews - another draft risk, probably best offensive player in class
Safford
Drost - has power from left hand side, not sure what best position is, could go pro from Barbe
Morgan - will miss his entire sr year
and that's it.
Pitching wise you lose Henry, Labas, Fontenot but you do bring back Hill and Marceaux and the pitching recruits are enough assuming you don't get hit hard by draft.
Looks like more of the same offense next year with light hitting prospects like Safford, Thompson and Milligan.

LSU signee Will Safford will be playing in the Prospect League for the Danville Dans this summer.
Tommy Biggs is scheduled to go to the Perfect Game League and play for the Saugerties Stallions. No word at this time on if his injury will change that.
