Project, without Turang and Slaughter who we expect to sign, is your roster at 40 right now? Mine is. Going to be tough to get to 35, right?

5 guys won’t be hard to do, especially after pulling in a very deep talented pitching class. We also don’t know for a fact if every signee is set to make it. I think there is 2 or 3 that hasn’t confirmed anything.
Dugas stole 2 more bases last night. He’s 12-14 in attempts through 13 games. He’s going to be exciting to watch next year.

There might be somebody else we're not considering, you know.
Jordan Loving could come out for baseball. This is a kid, after all, who hit three home runs in a game back in April.

EDIT: Loving was all-state...
quote:
He was one of the the most well-rounded athlete in the greater New Orleans area this season.
Jordan Loving was the starting quarterback on the Riverside football team.
He was a part of the perennial powerhouse basketball team.
And a starting first baseman on the baseball team.
So perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise that Loving was named to the Louisiana Sports Writer Association’s Class 2A all-state baseball team.
Jordan, who played first base, third base and pitcher, was named as a utility player on the team. He batted. .439 and was co-Most Outstanding Player in District 11-2A after helping Riverside advance to the quarterfinals of the Division III playoffs. Loving hit six home runs and had 34 RBIs.
On the mound, he went 6-5 with a 2.62 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 71 innings. One of his best performances of came against Country Day when he hit three home runs and had seven RBIs in a 14-0 victory. He helped lead Riverside to a baseball state championship as a junior.
It's the second all-state honor this school year for Loving, who was also quarterback on the LSWA's 2A all-state football team after throwing for 2,957 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior. He will attend LSU as a preferred walk-on in football.
“The thing about Jordan is he is such a fanatic at working hard," Riverside baseball coach Frank Cazeaux said during the season. "He easily could have told us he wasn’t going to play baseball and get ready for football. But he’s been tremendous in how he’s helped us with his play, his leadership and his work ethic. With the way he’s worked, you would think he’s getting ready for LSU baseball."
Loving was the only area player to be named to the LSWA's all-state baseball team.

And the kid Tolman from California you previously mentioned.
There are 3 pitchers on the current roster who would likely not get into any games. That would leave you at 37 and the next 2 spots but would very tough if every kid wanted in.

My list is the same as thunderbird's. I still have Turang on it as a formality because he hasn't signed yet.
I don't think getting down to 35 will be that tough. There are rumors that we're already around 38. Then, if any medical things pop up like Walker then that may keep a spot available. That's why I think we go into the fall over the 35 limit.
Now, if they want to add the Cali kid, that's going to take some more shuffling.

I don't think getting to 35 by spring will be that difficult.

I'm going to guess at a roster here...
Catchers (3): C.J. Willis, Brock Mathis, Braden Doughty
Infielders (8): Josh Smith, Brandt Broussard, Hal Hughes, Saul Garza, Drew Bianco, Gavin Dugas, Chris Reid, Cade Beloso (although I wouldn't be surprised to see somebody get signed this summer and one of these kids end up leaving)
Outfielders (5): Antoine Duplantis, Zack Watson, Daniel Cabrera, Giovanni DiGiacomo, Andrew Lee
Starting Pitchers (7): Zack Hess, Eric Walker, Nick Storz, Landon Marceaux, A.J. Labas, Cole Henry, Jaden Hill
Closers/Setup Men (5): Todd Peterson, Ma'Khail Hilliard, Will Ripoll, Aaron George, Riggs Threadgill
Long/Middle Relief (7): Matthew Beck, Caleb Gilbert, Devin Fontenot, Chase Costello, Rye Gunter, Easton McMurray, Eric Tolman
Usually you carry 17 position players and 18 pitchers, but this roster is 16/19. I don't know how you get down to 18 pitchers if you take Tolman, and frankly if you don't take Tolman I think you have to keep John Kodros in any event. You can't only have one lefty on the staff - especially when it's McMurray, who was largely shut down this year with a shoulder issue.

1 poster mentioned Moffitt and Vietmeier were definitely coming back, not sure how reliable they are, but seemed to know something

I haven't heard how Andrew Lee performed this year aa a Sr in HS. Did he have a good season? ?
Posted on 6/15/18 at 12:33 pm to thunderbird1100
I don't see any way you could carry those two with 19 or fewer pitchers. You'd have to lose Threadgill and Gunter, which I have no information will happen.
Posted on 6/15/18 at 4:42 pm to macaoidh
I have a feeling we could see a surprise transfer at pitcher. We have like 7 legit starters on the team and someone is not going to want to wait their turn. I agree with you on the INF thing. I would think a middle inf is more important than yet another pitcher, and if Turang does what is expected we need at least a back up there. Kodros is an ideal lefty specialist if he can get his command down. So I can see bringing him back
Posted on 6/17/18 at 9:51 pm to bugafor6
With Bush signing and Kodros transferring, the need for another lefty grew. Only 1 on the roster now
Posted on 6/18/18 at 12:56 pm to ProjectP2294
Yeah there is some thought he could be in the Round 1 pick 1 status for the 2019 draft. Some say he is the best high school pitcher for the 2019 class.

The most likely 2018 would be the Cali lefty. Beyond that, it could be anyone from 2019 on down to 2021. This is the time of year where we typically get our most commitments. I'll see what I can find out on this one right now.
