Only teams with 14 or more top 20 players at their position out of high school.

Bama- 20 players
Georgia- 19 players
LSU- 15 players**
Ohio State- 14 players

Only two other teams had double digits. Texas with 12 was the next highest.

****all according to 247 composite****

**On One3 sports LSU has 16 top 20 players at their position**

One3 sports:
Bama-22
Georgia-17
LSU-16
Ohio State-15
Texas-11
Miami-11
ND-12
Oregon-9

after all said and done, we signed 5 more players than Ohio State....can someone explain how they still rank higher?

OH St 1 18 1 = 93.26
LSU 1 17 7 = 92.8

So, is that 1 4 start SEVEN times better than than the 6 more 3-star recruits we bring in?? Was this like a case of the best 4 star vs the 7 seven lowest rated 3-stars?

Actually looking at it again we’re ranked #6 and their ranked #7 so we are ranked higher they just have a higher overall player ranking per player

Its disappointing given then similar talent level that LSU has only made 1 out of 9 playoffs while those teams have 3+ playoff appearances and multiple national title game appearances.

I see, On3 has them Ohio at 5, then OK at 6 and us at 7. 247 has an update with OK at 5, Ohio at 6 and us at 7. I don't quite understand recruiting rankings so its new to me.

Coaching does matter. Back end of Miles at his worst and Ed lucking into three future hall of famers playing together and some solid assistants that one year.

That's a stat from this recruiting cycle.

Look at their average rating. The 247 algorithm disproportionately weighs higher star ratings more. It’s not just straight math.

Play with the class calculator and it becomes obvious.

Also the fact that Alabama and LSU are in the same division. It’s not just a conference championship battle like it is for Georgia. So only one out of LSU /Bama would survive. That’s not even considering the fact that Bama has consistently been at that position where we have appearances.

Ohio State and Georgia do not have to play in theSEC west. Buckeyes have had a pretty easy path in the past. Although that may be changing. Same with Georgia much easier path and a built in defacto home game for the SEC 'ship. I'm not saying we should not have done better, clearly O screwed us over, but their are other circumstances.

Exactly when you are in the same conference and same division of the team that has made the most playoff appearances it makes it very difficult to get into the playoffs. Not making excuses but what roadblocks did Ohio St., Oklahoma, Clemson have to face every year to make the playoff? Don't give me the Michigan either they have been decent the last 2 years but their conference is trash.

Yeah you think? They start overrated every year, then play nobody and run up the score every game and play a crappy team in a conference championship game.

Also true. Until Tennessee got good this year, Georgia only has to beat Flordia to get that home cooking in the SEC championship. Basically, LSU has had to beat Georgia's schedule every year, and Alabama, and Georgia at Georgia just to get in the playoffs.

It's stupid how some teams have a much easier path than others to the playoffs. Hopefully that changes with SEC realignment and playoff expansion
