Anyone have a link?

all the links to Baseball America itself are premium, except for the blog, which doesn't mention the recruiting rankings. I will try and find a third party website that mentions it, as well as any other recruiting rankings I can find.

The draft may not take as many players as in the past. On one sports show they said that major league teams are not shelling out the big bucks even to proven major league players because of the economy. So players we might have lost in the past to the draft, we might sign.

The reality is that teams are choosing not play in the free agent market where 2-3 million $ doesnt mean much,, HOWEVER, 2-3 million thrown in the draft at choices will mean more signees. The cheapest way to improve a team is through the draft as compared to the free-agent market.
Draft choices may well see MLB as a plausible choice for the next couple of years-- through the 2011 draft when a new contract will be ratified.
LSU as other top teams have the choice- either ignore these top prospects, or go after them and hope that the kids make wise choices and opt for college

Your right,, for some the wise choice is to take the money. As much as we hate it,, for LSU.

For most, unless the bonus approaches $1m or so,, it seems that it is un wise trade for the experience of playing for a program like LSU.

Why? If the kid signs, the standard contract for a HS player, includes a scholarship paid for by the team. So why should they take a fraction of a scholarship, when they can get the entire thing paid for when their playing days are done?

Lots of reasons 1) LSU experience can't put a value on winning national championships and playing in the SEC
2) Coach Mineiri-tremendous mentor
3) If you go pro after a few years of college-pros still pay for you to finish getting your degree
4) TOPS help offset partial schollies
5) Higher your drafted, more money, so more money more chances you get to get a shot at the big dance
6) Fans--can't duplicate the experience of Alex Box--when all the money is gone the memories remain

"Most" do not exercise that option. 24-25 years old.. playing days over,, maybe married.. bills,, hard to go back to school.

The thing I have heard players say that signed out of high school is that they never got experience what happens at LSU.. the overall experience.

There is sunlight on the horizon however, as MLB toys with the idea of an international draft, it may reduce chances for American high schoolers to get the big bucks.. Selig has said it a priority with him before he steps down.
