Kelly has already stated that Cain has gotten better from last season.
Josh Williams and Cain as a 1-2 punch with Daniels is the play. If Emery is able to play, he's 3rd down back. It allows Goodwin to be a change of pace back and allows a future star like Kaleb Jackson a chance to slowly rock up carries and be able to jump in if somebody goes down.

If everyone was healthy and John Emery wasn't inconsistent I would agree that we wouldnt need another back. Unfortunately, thats not the case. We had 2 rbs in the spring.

Cain is a situational back at best and his stats even prove it. He's a pure north/south runner in shorter yardage situations.

I personally agree we don't "need" a back but it doesn't hurt to take one. We've got question marks at the position from the staffs perspective, available scholarships and a good shot at getting him. What's the harm? Can only improve the team. We should all be for that.

If lsu gets diggs rb room will be crowded in the fall when guys get healthy and emery is cleared

If Emery can’t keep his grades up with all the academic help athletes get, I don’t know what else LSU can do for him. At some point he has to take responsibility for himself and put forth the effort.

I'm not sure how anyone can count on Emery to take care of his business at this point. Diggs is experienced and talented. We have available scholarships and a need for depth there with Cain, Goodwin, and Williams the only guys who have taken snaps in college. This is a no brainer.

CBK would not be out to sign Diggs if he thought Emery was coming back. Indicator here. I'm thinking JW,Cain and Diggs is a great trio. With support from the two freshman backs coming in. We will be fine.
