Lets talk about switching to a 4-3 and how it affects recruiting

I still don't fully get a 3-4 defense from what I hear from people is the Dline in a 3-4 don't really get to shine and they are there more to plug up the running lanes and let the Line backers do all the work. If we are in a 4-3 that means we would have 2 DT's? so Shelvin and Ika or Guilloroy? and then ends would still be Logan/Ferrel or Roy Taylor? (think taylor would move to DT in this situation but idk) so what would Webb Ojulari and those guys move to they would still be DE's correct? and the OLB's would be idek maybe Marcel Clark Devonta Lee off the top of my head but if you have any informaion on a 3-4 or what switching to a 4-3 would do to our line ups or are recruiting please let me know

Logan, Farrell, Shelvin, Ika, Roy(unless he gets down to 270 or so), Taylor, Gaye(maybe), Evans, anyone over 285 or so would play DT. Edges (DE) would include Chaisson(if back but probably not), Moore, Anthony, Thornton(more hybrid OLB but could play Edge just needs more weight), Ojulari (same as Thornton just needs to gain weight), Cherry. Mike Williams is a tweener and Gaye probably is too. That’s all I can think of, but I would say we are better suited for a 3-4 as of today.
Edit: also Webb at edge

I'll be honest...
I like it because we have multiple 4-3 DTs and few 3-4 DEs...
72/62 works in 4-3 but not 3-4 IMO.
Having said that, we also have some stud OLBs coming in that would not play naturally as a 4-3 DE, so not sure the best overall besides accommodating the DTs.

What Aranda pretty much did was put the best 11 on the field and then find a way to use them. Like he did with Stevenson. Hopefully that's what the new DC does and you can call it whatever you want, 4 - 3, 3 - 4, 3-3-5, or 2 - 4 - 5. Just put the best players in the best positions to make the best plays

Why do the OLB's not fit naturally as a 4-3 DE? are they too small?
Posted on 1/16/20 at 4:56 pm to HTX_LSU
Yeah they're usually like 6-2+ and 235-250lbs (in college).

Shelvin and Ika both play NT though. 3-4.

Not true. A lot of NFL defense have been running 4-3s with slightly smaller DE/LB Called a Leo. It’s 4-3 except the end is in a stand up position. There’s a strong side DE and weak side in the 4-3. We have the personnel. Plus you act like the guys that are 220 can’t put 15 lbs of muscle in the off season.

Where is all of this 4-3 talk coming from? We haven't hired a new DC and the 3-4 is generally regarded as better against the spread.

You can have 2 big boys in a 4-3 but not in a 3-4 (traditionally,)...
They might fit NT but are great DT for a 4-3

I'll talk about it only after I see who Ed O hires.

THe numbers suggest a 4-3.
If we get McKinley Jackson we would have 16 dline for 3 positions.
Somebody's transferring if there are 13 non starters.
or
Somebody's moving over to OLINE, which I would suspect
they would be: N. Jenkins, E. Taylor and J. Evans.
furthermore, we have a three deep at LB, which is fine, but we have a 5 or 6 deep at DE.

Man, Devonta Lee would be filthy as a linebacker.
