I wouldn't be surprised if Chavis turned Hootie into a OLB .. he has done it before

It's a possibility considering the number of safetys we could have in this class. If Battle plays well in camp, Chavis may have a decision on his hands with Hootie. With all that being said, I think he stays at SS

I truly believe that the Chief should (if he isn't already) refering to some of the 2011 season tapes of his third down dime set that pretty much just was a 3-1-7 package. We had the personel to run it and he did. Even an undersized Mingo was on the DL for that package and it was all about speed.

It brought a speed rush with blitzes from any and sometimes every direction into the mix and it worked! That package was often more fun to watch than Oregon's offense against a Pac D.

This is why the staff can pull so many guys in the secondary for this class... they will use them if they are worthy of seeing the field. History has proven this and that is the best recruiting tool that we might have in this situation where we are looking at a half dozen blue chip DBs.

On a side note, couldn't Hootie play as a strong side OLB anyway?

Hootie is a SS prospect. Adams is a FS prospect. One is not the back-up plan for the other, and LSU will take BOTH in a heartbeat. Hootie showed more interest in LSU earlier while Jamal was considered a UT/UF battle, that's the only reason Jamal wasn't mentioned more here until Hootie committed elsewhere. It's coincidence.

wat? Yeah they will be recruited at diff positions but we put the press on adams because hootie committed to bama. That isnt a coincidence. So all of a sudden adams is interested in LSu and visits twice in 2 weeks AFTER hootie was gone. yet you think its just a coincidence? No, i have to disagree.

Macho, this is sound thinking. Especially with the need for numerous DB's with so many in the SEC now running a more spread offense with multiple WR's. LSU will be in dire need of all this tallent. Can't wait.

Rumors are rumors, I don't get why people post rumors? I mean if a guy with bama gear on told me tonight that he heard from LF himself that he was going to bama........ No freakn way I'm coming post that on here! NO WAY! Even positive rumors unless by someone on staff or very close relationship to the recruit would I post. Or a positive feeling I have, an opinion, I may post that? But jus a rumor?? No! Everyone and thing in close to the situation on Adams is trending LSU, why in the world say something someone jus said is rumor?? This could of been something someone heard long ago and hasn't been given the latest info on him? Or someone messing around? Or many more......

Some people just love attention I guess. It doesn't seem to matter if it's good or bad to them.

Man, I really, really want some big guys in the trenches to go along with this class.
if DT play this year was any indication we need some help there for sure. Hopefully guys that redshirted last year can step up.

This part isn't complete coincidence, but the staff probably still would have put the press on even if Hootie announced for us. LSU has been recruiting Jamal since at least the summer, and over the course of the season both his top picks have gone off the tracks. I do agree the staff probably focused harder on him after Hootie announced just because safety is a huge need in this class. Still, they were on him well before that, the door just wasn't as open.

He visited unofficially before Hootie committed, and scheduled an official. The staff, and Paris from the look of his twitter, were pretty confident in Hootie at that time. It should be obvious why by now. Clifton Garrett said he's been recruiting Jamal for months as well.

The timing is definitely suspect, but not if you look a little closer at the facts, and that's exactly why I made this thread.

I appreciate your understanding of defensive formations. Spread the good word.
