I believe not aggressively recruiting quality lineman every season is a bad strategy. That is a reasonable concern.

So no one agrees with this?

Definitely DE.

You got about 10 DEs there a and a couple of guards.

Marsh and Blackmon are DTs all the way.

Evan Washington is a G/T.

Jordan Allen is probably an OT.

And that's just this year.

Everyone agrees with this, but we ARE, so it's a useless post.

So everyone is concerned about a thin depth chart at DT next season, but everyone is ok with waiting until next year to address this position?

There aren't any DTs worth taking over the guys next year. What's the point of taking them now when better talent will be at LSU the entire time?

Why is it thin?

Drake Nevis
Josh Downs
Chris Davenport
Mike Brockers
Bennie Logan

plus the freshmen. That gives you a rotation of at least 5 guys plus whichever freshmen can play.. that's not exactly thin... and I didn't even count Hicks.

I've always been under the impression one of Logan/Brockers will be a DT. Hicks is still on the team.

Marsh is pretty highly recruited. Blackmon doesn't have the ranking but the coaches were obviously impressed with him. Still recruiting Ego pretty hard who could end up on the inside.. I don't know of many else DT's we really had a shot at. Richard Ash came camp, and the coaches offered Blackmon over him..

From all accounts, You have basically 2 DTs with SEC experience, and 3 with none. So in 2011 we can look forward to having the same problem with a bunch of talented but extremely inexperienced players at the DT position. This is why you have to recruit the most important position in the SEC more aggressively each season.

Hey guys. I was over on Wikipedia looking up "Epic Failure", and they linked me to this thread.

What's going on in here?

Well played

This thread makes about as much sense as this picture.

LSU is recruiting quality lineman. Not everyone wants to come to LSU.

Next year we'll obviously have to play lineman with little to no experience. It's hard to say after that as we have really no idea who's going to rotate next year and what position they'll really be playing. From Chavis's preseason conferences it looked like he wanted to rotate the defensive line more we just didn't have the talent/depth to do it. Now that the guys have had a year in the weightroom/system they may be ready next year we'll see.

Not really.

Last year we enter with Drake Nevis, Charles Alexander (on half of one leg now) and Al Woods.

Every other expected contributor was a newcomer to the program.

Next year we have Nevis, Downs (with a year of experience and conditioning), a coached up Davenport, Brockers, Logan, etc. All these guys have at least a year of practice under their belts not to mention all the weight training etc.

Plus, Davenport is the type of prospect that should be able to play right away... and DT isn't a mentally demanding position, so asking young guys to step in is usually an issue of size/technique rather than knowledge.

Our depth at DT will be light years ahead next year of what it was this year.

Depth, yes; Experience, no.

The DL will soon be the strength of the entire team. Maybe not this next year, but probably the year after.
