Any open scholarships can go to transfers.

Any open counter or any open initial counter? If the former, we can take dozens then. If the latter, I think OP is asking how many additional initial counters do we get.

Agree. It is amazing that some of these guys will obviously be wrong and unwilling to research to find the correct answer. Yet, they will argue and post an obviously incorrect opinion over and over.

We have 32 spots. Pretty much any school that wants to have those 7 extra spots from players leaving will be able to make it work. Those spots can be filled with all high school players, all transfers, or a mixture of the 2. There is no limit on high school or transfers. They just have to add up to 32. Why is this so hard to understand for some people?

But we've already signed 13 HS kids... we can only take 25 from HS? So only 12 more can go to HS kids?

Edit: nvm.. missed this on the sticky - "The 7 replacement scholarships can go to any initial counters – they do not have to be players from the transfer portal. They can be used on high school recruits, JUCO transfers, or D1 transfers."

We have 13 HS and 6 Transfers. We can take 6 more of either and then 7 transfers (because we lost 7). So we could take 13 more if they wanted to.

EDIT: this is wrong

IDK the rules anymore. I know we need a ton of players.

I wonder if they decided to over sign like bama does(counting towards the following year), how does that look now with the +7?

This. Is. Not. Correct.

I don’t know why people are still saying this so matter-of-factly. It’s entire reason I made the thread about the signing limit waiver.

Each of the 7 “replacements” gives you an extra initial counter for the 2022 cycle. Period. Doesn’t matter whether you sign high school guys or transfers to fill that initial counter. We could take 32 high school recruits or we could take 32 transfers, or any combination in between.

This, provided the number of transfers in equal the number of transfers out, correct?

Any open initial counter. There are very limited situations where you can add a transfer as a counter without him being an initial counter - for example, Tre Bradford. Because he transferred back to LSU, he wasn’t an “initial” counter. But those cases are the exception not the rule.

It was my understanding of the rule. So in my mind it was a fact.

No. We get an additional signing spot for every “departure” with remaining eligibility up to a max of 7. So that gives you up to 32 signing spots. You can use those signing spots on whoever you want.

There is no requirement that you use any specific number of spots on transfers.

I get it. It’s been stated incorrectly so many times that people are certain it’s true.

Just trying to make it clear.

So then with at least 7 kids having already transferred out, LSU has "unlocked" the additional 7 spots to get this class to 32. They can fill the remaining slots with any eligible recruit, regardless of HS, Juco, transfer portal, etc?

"According to the NCAA Q&A document, the blanket waiver applies to scholarship players who depart the university for any reason – including transfers and the NFL draft. However, it’s possible (if not likely) that some of our NFL draft early entrants have not maintained their academic eligibility. One way to interpret this: if a player is leaving early for the draft and PLAYED in the bowl game, you know he was academically eligible. If a player is leaving early for the draft and OPTED OUT of the bowl game, he may or may not have been academically eligible; there’s no way to know for sure" So does this mean that we received open spots for our guys that went to the draft? We had a few guys in the bowl game that declared, so are we receiving open spots for this? I feel like there is something else beyond that rule

Does the scholarship immediately open when a player from LSU goes into the portal?

No. Not until they actually transfer (or are no longer enrolled at LSU).

We only have 5 that have actually already transferred. The rest are still in the portal. But we should already be at the full 7 anyway once you add the NFL draft early entrants, so it doesn’t really matter.

According to the NCAA Q&A document, yes - as long as they would have been eligible had they stayed. Ingram, Hines, and Atkins played in the bowl so they were definitely eligible. Damone Clark graduated in December so he would have been eligible as well.

The rest are unclear, but it’s a moot point. The 4 guys we know were eligible plus the 5 transfers (so far) already gives us the max 7 replacements anyway.

25 new scholarships (HS or Portal)...
Up to 7 transfer replacements (HS or Portal)
Total of 32...
I'm sure Bama will somehow swing 40.
