Well, Bama and UF are WAY above every other team in the nation, including USC. If UF pulls in Floyd to go with Powell, just amazing.

Just think the guy is a football player who will find a way to help somewhere. You don't get MVP of the Scout Combine by being a total scrub.

It's just pretty clear that LSU sat on recruiting during the season while the McCarthy fiasco was happening. There are teams like Auburn that moved on to players like Lemonier and Trovon Reed, who will likely have a better class than LSU.

I think/hope that Frank will fix that going forward. He certainly has hustled his arse off since he got hired and done an amazing job. But IMO staffs like Auburn and Tennessee outhustled LSU during the season.

IMO guys like Welter and even Muncie shouldn't have gotten early offers from LSU. There are other guys in the past like Derrick Bryant and Prater that were questionable early offers. IMO Bates is a better prospect than those guys bc of his ability to pass rush. Bates can fill a few roles on a team, he's a more versitile prospect.

Next year though, we MUST recruit like Bama and Florida if we are to catch them. In particular, we must go out of state and find a couple of legit bigtime linebackers.

I'll agree with everything except Luke Muncie. I think Muncie has great potential. I think his offer lists puts him in another league from the guys you compared him.

Totally agree with the Linebacker comment Colt. You'd think with Chavis, they'd be lining up(see Kelvin Sheppard), but they go elsewhere.

I thought so too when I saw his film. But then I watched him on Fox Sports in September, and he didn't impress at all. Rivals was at that game, and thought the same.

I am starting to learn that highlight films only can show so much. You need to see prospects in actual game situations to see their true instincts and athleticism. JMO.

Well, it's a pretty crappy year overall for LBs.

I still think LSU made a mistake on Shaun Lewis as he looked awesome last weekend. He's a better prospect than Corey Nelson, who looked a little overrated to me.

Also Michael Taylor. I think LSU backed off on Taylor and Lewis in the summer.

Those are two of the 10 best LBs in the nation this year IMO. There just aren't a lot of good ones.

LOL at the idea that TE is a bigger need than DE right now. We split our TE out like a WR half the damn time anyway, so Peterson shouldn't have an issue. We have zero upperclass DEs that can get after the QB. This is a no brainer, DEs are much more important than TEs in general.

WTF? Where are you getting 15 from? Once again, we might only have like 4 next year. That's a lot less than DEs.

I'm exaggerating, of course. 4 is plenty. Why do you think we need so many TEs?

And it seems like he won't be much of a player there. No one seems nearly as high on him as they were when he was coming out of high school 2 years ago.

Is it not a bit early to count out a player who is a RS Freshman?

You and I both know he's definitely not 240. He's 220, MAYBE. He looks like a WR.

I don't know that? He looks a lot thicker than 220 to me...

I have a hard time seeing Peterson at TE for a team that wants to try to run the ball powerfully. He doesn't block close to Dickson.

I look at him more like a Colston type, he doesn't even look that big at this point.

Honestly, I'll trust Chavis' opinion on LBers. I'm not too thrilled with any of our LB commits either, but when it comes to LB coaching/evaluating he's been 2nd to none for about 20 years. The litany of guys he's taken and turned in LBs and put in the league is pretty remarkable. And a lot of these guys were unheralded RBs or DBs coming out of HS.

Anyone notice that Nick Jacobs and Adams have the same measurables. 6'5 243 4.8(40)? I guess one will be TE,one DE??

A report a while ago said Jacobs is well over 260 and up to about 6'6 now. He's looking like an OT.

Wow,didn't know that. I heard he was an amazing athlete, but he could be huge for us.

This pickup just says the coahces are not happy with some of the young guys player development and need someone to step right in to fill a gap at DE.

Also says that some guys will be changing positions and opening up spots at DE.

Exactly this.

Regarding the mention of Shaun Lewis, he is a guy I think LSU could have gotten had the coaches pursued him. He will be an outstanding LB for OK State.

While i agree that a jc de was not necessarily a need,I do think it could prove to be important. There is a chance that Montgomery is not ready at the start of next year or at all next year.We will need someone if that happens.Peterson is a weapon and matchup problem at TE.When we want to power run,we'll bring in one of the bigger blocking te

Yes indeed. Chavis has a tremendous track record of developing LBs and has placed many of his students in the NFL.
